Thrift Store Owl Takes Center Stage

April 11, 2013

{If you're looking for how to vote for me in the Ultimate Goodwill Upcycling Contest (yay!), details are at the end of this post.  Thanks!}

I pride myself on not being TOO trendy, but sometimes the latest trend just gets the best of me.  Like owls.  I mean, who knew that they would become so popular?  They finally got to me, too, and I picked up a few little guys during some of my Goodwill thrifting trips.  And I've been torn over what to do with this one.

Pin It

He's 3 inches tall and fits perfectly inside another Goodwill find, my tiny cloche.  The cloche had no base to it, so I purchased the little silver tray/stand to go under it at the same time.  I believe all three
pieces cost me somewhere in the neighborhood of $4.00.  Right now he's sitting on my kitchen table, taunting me every time I walk by.  Why, you ask?  Well, I've been trying to resist the urge to paint him white but I can't seem to get the idea out of my head.  And we all know that everything looks better when white, right?

He's sitting there pretty happily between two homemade mercury glass votives and some JoAnn clearance ($1.99 each) greens that I put out for a bit of springy-ness. For fake plants I thought they looked pretty realistic.  (To say I have a black thumb would be an understatement, hence the shhhh plastic.)

I was pretty happy when I realized that the little pots fit perfectly inside the votives. You can see how I turned the plain glass into mercury glass HERE

I wish I could have gotten a better picture of him but it's very difficult when you're shooting something under glass.  The detail on him really is quite nice.

So what do you think?

Paint him white?

 Let me know what you think!

xoxo

Wow! I've been looking for a glass cloche but they're all too expensive. Can't believe you found yours for just $4. What a steal!!

What a find!- I'm so smitten with owls! (my logo is an owl) and perching him under the cloche looks adorable!

What a cute little owl, Kathleen! My daughter loves owls. Such a great cloche you found, too! I am always looking for cloches in the glass aisle, but I only found one a few years ago at the Goodwill on Long Island. Haven't found one since.
