Fall and Halloween Series Take 1: Rubber Rats Anyone?

October 1, 2013

Okay, I'll admit it:  I have not decorated for Fall or Halloween as of yet.  As much as I'm not happy about it, life has been too complicated lately to do the things I usually do this time of year.  So, I'm gonna have to dig deep and share with you a few favorites from years past.

Today I'm sharing some of my cheap and easy Dollar Tree rubber rat Halloween decor from last year {2012}.

Enjoy!

I promised I'd show you something I did for Halloween with my friendly {creepy, spooky} rat silhouettes.  I have to say, though, that those innocent silhouettes made me think outside the box and give in to those squeaky, rubber rats from Dollar Tree. Can you say Ben?  I was so enamored with the rat silhouettes that I posted about here, I had to take it one step further and add a 3-D element to the creepiness.

Wouldn't you just love to stumble across this one in the dead of night?

Chickadee number 2 helped me decide where to put them all, and she even drew some rat hole doors for effect.

I especially love this one on the clock in the foyer.

I originally got this idea from Martha Stewart's Halloween Book, "The Best of Martha Stewart Halloween Handbook."

Martha Stewart Crafts Mice Silhouettes

You can buy her silhouettes on line here, or you can go to her website here and get the templates to print and cut these critters out for yourself.  Actually, you'll be able to print out ALL her templates from birds, to mice to witches to owls.  And speaking of witches and owls....

This owl is another one of my Dollar Tree silhouettes.  Doesn't it look absolutely marvelous on my vintage gold leaf mirror?  I also have a bunch of bird silhouettes from last year.  Who knows where they're going to go?

I've always loved this white pumpkin with the witch's silhouette painted on it.  This year I placed it on a chippy, shabby thrift store candlestick and added some plastic spiders on top for effect.

And last but not least, I couldn't help myself and just had to place one of my teeny, tiny mice under glass.  I mean, what are cloches for, anyway?

Bon appetit?

Mwaaahhhhhhhhh.

What do YOU have planned for Halloween decor?

I'll be sharing more Halloween and Fall decorating ideas from years past over the next few weeks. Hope you're inspired!

Thanks for stopping by!

xoxo

Hey, you are definitely forgiven for not being decorated! That beautiful show had to take a huge chunk of energy. I'd probably miss Christmas! Those rat silhouettes are way cool...I live in an old farmhouse, so the one under glass? Ummm.. I think I'd have to draw the line! Lol... Love your humor. And your jewelry.

I would die of fright in your house at night. The rat silhouettes - so real in the shadows. Creepy but cool decor.
