Thrill of the Hunt #95

Anchor Hocking Jane Ray Jade Ite pattern sugar bowl

Welcome, friends, to another fun-filled Thrill of the Hunt post where I share my latest thrifty (and mostly) vintage finds with you. I'm excited to get started so here goes!

I always love it when I find vintage Christmas decorations on my thrifty hunts. There's just something special about seeing things that remind me of my childhood or of Christmases past. When that happens it's a no-brainer that I'm going to cave and buy it! (Assuming the price is right, of course.)

So you can imagine how thrilled I was to find this vintage mini wooden sled decoration at an estate sale for $4.00.

It has the words "Seasons Greetings" etched at the top and it came with a pair of adorable red knit mittens on a string that's used to hang them from the sled.

red mittens green bows

Not all the pictures show it but the mittens are the perfect Christmas candy apple red, and the bows are just the right shade of green.

I love decorating with red plaid thermoses for Christmases every year. They compliment so many vignettes.

I originally thought I would do something to the sled to decorate it a bit more but I actually came to love it in its simplicity.

Next up is a vintage circa 1970's Aladdin Thermos, the one on the right. I've had the red one for years now. The butterscotch brown plaid one was a treat to find as it was my first non-red plaid thermos find. (Well, it looks plaid to me.)

Aladdin best buy vacuum bottle number 44 stopper

It's Aladdin's Best-Buy one pint wide mouth vacuum bottle with detachable cup. It was made by Aladdin Industries, Inc.in Nashville, Tennessee. I got it from Goodwill for $2.97. I've seen it listed on ebay and etsy for $10-$28. I think it will maintain a secure spot in my rotation of vintage fall and Christmas decor items showcased around my home.

jadeite sugar bowl

Prior to finding this at a barn sale and subsequently looking up the history of Jadeite, all I knew was that I liked the look and color of these vintage green glassware pieces I'd seen all over for years in my thrifting travels.

For $3.00 I knew I  had to have this one.

After some digging it turns out that this piece is from Anchor Hocking's Jane Ray Fire-King Jade Ite dinnerware line, made from 1945 through 1963. So at its youngest it could be 56 years old!

Without the lid this "open sugar" bowl is selling on Replacements.com for $17.99. With the lid it's going for $49.99! Guess I'll be on the lookout for a lonesome lid sometime soon lol.

I can use it for many things other than just a sugar bowl. For example, I enjoy displaying my bottle brush trees in unusual containers, and this bowl was just perfect for my white vintage-inspired bottle brush tree with gold ornaments.

Here it is on the Replacements.com website. I love the pattern's vertical lines and curvy detailed handles. I will definitely be keeping this one for my newly-minted and growing Jadeite collection.

Well, that's it until next time, friends!

  5. Envious of your treasures. I only have 3 pieces of Jadeite that I have found reasonably priced; $75 for a S&P set is NOT it! Your sled is "cunning" (Maine-ism for really cute); you could put a spray of greenery on it, seat a Teddy Bear on it, have it hauling presents....abd leave it out all winter! Great finds!
