2017 Dollar Store Christmas Favorites Recap

January 2, 2018

Merry and Bright gift box Dollar Store

Some years I manage to post a ton of Christmas decor ideas and DIY's. This year I was not as successful in that department as I would have liked. Hence a Christmas-related post in January! Seriously, I've been thinking about this one for a long time. And I think it's timeless no matter what month of the year I share it in. You all know my M.O. is thrifty decor with a vintage twist!

Okay, now aren't these just the cutest little things you've ever seen?

I found these adorable mini retro camper mugs right up front in the Dollar Store when I walked in. (I purchased the vintage deer on Etsy a few years ago.) And there were only two left -- which I totally understood! I was just thankful the vintage-inspired Christmas tchotchke gods were shining down upon me that day. And it's clearly better that they had only two left, if you know what I mean!

And while some people probably use them as actual coffee mugs, I will not. First of all, I immediately saw them as Christmas decor and second of all, I'm a big tea drinker --and I drink my tea out of a super-sized mug!

I've been very pleased with the ornaments I've found at the Dollar Store over the past few years. There are more than I can share here, but I did want to share two ornaments from 2017 that I adored. I was so happy when I came across these angel's wings ornaments.

They're the epitome of shabby chic. A gold pair and a white pair -- with fur and glitter! And I was equally enamored of both. The white one went particularly well with my white feather tree.

Here the gold one hangs daintily on a mini dress form that I have in my studio. It was a perfect match. This way I can keep it out all year long.

It never ceases to amaze me that you can pick up high class-looking Christmas gift boxes at The Dollar Store. Every year I say I'm not going to buy any more of them and then I go ahead and buy more of them!

This one opens up from the middle, so the lid is actually permanently attached. I think the bright colors and the 3-D aspect make it pretty and unique.

This one pretty much speaks for itself.

I mean --  a glittery red pickup truck with Christmas trees in the back? Um, count me in! I couldn't decide whether to use this one as a gift box or as art!

And last but not least (and I really could go on and on but I'm making myself stop) they've been carrying some really beautiful Christmas gift bags as well. So much so that I actually used one of them for some DIY Christmas wall art two years ago and it was a huge hit.

I know you're probably all Christmas-ed out by now. But I really wanted to take the time to point out that there are marvelous finds at the Dollar Store at Christmas -- if you keep your eyes open and visit often. I even go to a few different locations around my town, since each store usually has something unique to that particular store that you can't get anywhere else.

So while I always scope out Christmas goodies all year long, mainly at Goodwill and other thrift stores/estate sales/flea markets, I fully expect to find a treasure trove of affordable Christmas items at my local Dollar Store next Christmas (only 357 days away)!

Well, that's it until next time, friends!

Those mugs with the trees are adorable! I'm sure I would have walked past them, but now, having seen your "vision", I'm wondering if my store still has any - if they ever did? :-D Actually, I wonder if they have any Christmas decorations that might be 2/1.00 today. Hmmmm.....

Pinned and loved.

I loved your comment about using the gift bag as art. I have a friend who used the medium sized gift bags to hold her small plain waste baskets. It is instant decor, can change with the holidays, or pick up the theme/color of a room. You would have LOVED the hydrangeas one I used in my bedroom! And by the way, I am NEVER Christmased out; am waiting a while, though, to start ornaments for my church's November bazaar!

I NEVER see anything cute at my Dollar Store, but didn't realize you had to go often. I'll give them another chance, LOL. Love those little camper mugs! Never seen anything like the angel wing ornaments either, but maybe I don't have my eyes open. Didn't know they had the gift boxes.

Love all the great finds at your local dollar store. I love hitting my locals as they have some really great finds as well but nothing like all your goodies. I shop at the .99 cent store and The Dollar Tree. What dollar store do you shop at? I know there are different dollar stores across the country but was hoping a lot of them sold the same merchandise. Guess not. Oh well. It's still fun seeing what others have found and how they use different items in so many creative ways. Thanks for sharing.
