Vintage Pearl and Rhinestone Earring Recycle Tutorial

June 10, 2010

Well, the idea is a simple one.  Find a fantastic old pair of screw-on earrings at the flea market, and then what?  Love the vintage look, but not the screws!  I suppose I could turn them into a pair of more traditional earrings with posts, but I AM the Charm Bracelet Diva, after all.  So every piece of vintage jewelry I come across has "charm" potential!  Here's the latest I picked up at the local monthly flea market.

LoVe the sparkly rhinestones and creamy pearls!  SO, what next?  Just take the screw part off the back! (I had to use my wire cutters and squeeze pretty hard!  Then I had to file down the remaining wire to make sure it's smooth to the touch.)

Front of earring without the screw-on clasp.

Back of earring without the screw-on clasp.

Next step is to open the jump ring with two flatnose pliers and remove the pearl dangle.  Save that piece for another day!

Here's your charm!

Now insert an open jump ring into the top of the charm, then attach it to a beautiful silver charm bracelet (use your flatnose pliers to close the jump ring around one of the bracelet's links)  and Voila'!

Gotta love it!  The possibilities are endless ~ dress it up with other vintage charms or leave it plain and simple, classic.  Can't wait to figure out which way I'm going to play it!  Have any vintage restyles in your repertoire?  I'd love to see them here!
