Burlap Armoire Media Cabinet Re-do

June 19, 2012

Armoire.  Media cabinet.  Call it what you may.  Either way, it seems like style is often sacrificed for the sake of  good quality stereo sound.  In our case, surround sound.  When we bought this armoire/media cabinet around 16 years ago, I had no problem with it.  I know.  You're thinking, "How on earth did that black speaker cover thingy in the middle not drive you crazy?"  Surprisingly, it really didn't start to bother me until the last few years or so.  But then it REALLY bothered me!  Take a look at these "before" shots.

I'm guessing you can feel my pain.  By way of explanation, the big black square in the middle is black mesh  that's attached to the inside of the door.  Since the stereo receiver is in this section, the mesh allows you to still use the remote control to program the receiver.  We have 5 Bose surround sound speakers strategically placed around the family room.  Trust me, Mr. CBD values good, quality sound.

I'm all for good sound, but how about some style?  Once I had my light bulb moment it all became clear.  So I went from this.

To this.

Better?

I used a script burlap material I already had, from Jo-Ann's.  You might recall it from my footstool re-do here

Recognize that same fabric?   I really am loving the new look.

How about you?

xoxo

I do like it a lot! I have a stool that needs covering - need to go look at that fabric.
Enjoy your evening.

Great Idea! My hubs has two big speakers in our "gameroom/loft". Wonder if I could sneak in and cover those with burlap?!? Think he'd notice? Haha

Brilliant Kathleen. Now it looks good and still functions. Isn't that funny how all of a sudden something starts to drive you crazy? One day it's fine and the next day it has to go.

Hi Kathy, Great idea! I have a similar cabinet that has become obsolete with the new TV sizes. I'm itching to paint it...That's what I thought you were going to do...but that little change made a big difference. As always, you've got great ideas. Love, Penny

Oh I love the script burlap, I saw it a few weeks ago at Jo-Ann's. At the time I really wasn't all that familliar with that stuff, after my trip to Jo-Ann's literally that day, I see all these projects that use burlap, so now I know what it's used for. It's really neat, love what you did with the armoire and the footstool is fabulous!

Love your blog. I'm a new follower.

So much better! Looks great. It's funny how we live with something so long and then suddenly we don't like it at all. You came up with a great solution to your dilemma.
Thanks for stopping by,
