DIY Dollar Store ~BOO~ Chalkboard Decor

October 11, 2014

Despite the fact that I haven't posted about anything
even vaguely resembling fall décor,
I couldn't resist sharing this quick and easy craft for Halloween!
I think it gives a really whimsical touch to your Halloween décor,
but depending on the font and word(s) you choose
it might end up being rather spooky!

I was inspired by a Halloween craft I undertook
a few years ago that was quick, cheap and easy,
but packed a lot of punch:

It remains to this day one of my all-time favorite projects.

But to spice things up a bit I thought I'd write
 "BOO"
on the Dollar Store chalkboards
instead, and place each chalkboard
into it's own clipboard to create
a new Boo vignette for
this year's Halloween décor.

The process I used to transfer the letters onto the chalkboards
(yes, I stink so badly at freehanding
that I even need to trace "BOO") is the same one
I used for my
Super Easy DIY Easter Chalkboard Graphic Transfer.

The font I chose is called Pumpkinese
and I got if from
Dafont.com.

Here's a screen shot of it.

And here's my printed out version.

Here's what you need:

Materials

Printed image or images/typography

chalk

pencil

chalkboard

masking tape

clipboard(s)

Step 1. Take your piece of chalk and TOTALLY cover
the BACK side of your image with it,
being sure to rub the chalk back and forth
over the entire image, like so.

I know it's hard to see, but the chalk is on there, trust me.

Step 2.  Once you're done chalking the back side of the paper,
blow off all the excess chalk dust.

Step 3.  Turn the paper over and place it where you want that image
to be on the chalkboard.
Then gently tape it down with masking tape.

Step 4.  Now take your pencil and trace around the outline of your image(s).
Then go back and color/rub it all in with pencil.

Step 5. Once you're completely done coloring it in,
gently remove the image from the chalkboard.
You'll be left with an ever-so-faint chalked image that
you'll need to fully chalk in.

I'm sorry I don't have pictures of steps 3 through 5,
but you can see exactly what I mean here in

Her they are after I fully finished coloring in the outlines.

And here they are after I added them into a
Halloween vignette with pumpkins,
real and paper-mache, as well as a vase
of creepy Dollar Store black flowers
and requisite raven.

I hope you've enjoyed the tutorial and have been
inspired to create some clipboard/chalkboard
art of your own!

The beauty is that this can be done for
SO many holidays and occasions.
