How To Display Lilacs: 3 Ways

 fresh lilacs in flower trug

It's that time of year again. Lilacs are in bloom, everywhere! I'm not familiar with
all the different types of lilacs that are out there but I can tell you that our lilac bushes
are in their glory right now.

Their scent alone is glorious. So strong and sweet. I usually don't like really
sweet-smelling flowers, but I love the smell of lilacs.
They remind me of my childhood.

They aren't around for long. If you blink they're gone. So you have to make the most of
them while they're blooming. You may have given up on trying to display them indoors
since they're uniquely shaped flowers that can be a challenge to display. But I came up with
a few ideas after trying to think outside the (traditional vase) box and had fun displaying
them for you.
 First up, the flower trug.

I've had this balsa wood flower trug for years. Right now I'm using it to carry in vegetables
from the garden. But it's also great for collecting freshly picked flowers. So I was thinking,
hhmmm, why not just display them in it?

Now figuring out a way to get water in there is a challenge, I'll admit.
But it's nothing that a few shallow bowls of water can't remedy.

I haven't decided yet where I want to show off my trug, so I've taken pictures of it out in
the yard where the light was much better than it was inside!
Now on to the cutest mini flower vases E.V.E.R.
I found these blue mini jars in the dollar bin at Target. They
reminded me of Mason Jars and you know how I feel about Mason
Jars. So of course I had to bring them home. Now I'm so glad I did.

It makes for such a sweet sight, don't you think?

Next up, the ironstone soup tureen.

I've shared my lilacs in a tureen once before. I do think its one of the simplest,
prettiest ways to display any type of flower.
My only issue with lilacs is that I can never get them to last very long in water.
Any suggestions?
Hope your May has been going well. Ours has been crazy with end of school stuff and
another 8th grade graduation. I can't believe June is just around the corner.
Can you?

Well, that's it until next time!

Hi Kathleen! Gorgeous lilac displays. I just bought a few really old Mason Jars from Goodwill that will look really pretty with some lilacs in them. Thanks for sharing!

I won't try and pick a favorite - all so pretty! Really like the trug. Learn something new every day - I had never heard that style basket called a trug before.
Sorry no help on how to keep them longer.
Enjoy your evening.

They're gorgeous! All of your ideas are so clever, but the soup tureen is my favorite.

Love all three of your lilac displays, Kathleen. If I have to pick one, I'll go with the ironstone--the contrast between the white and lavender is just beautiful :) Happy week-end to you--

How very pretty!!! I like them all but the soup tureen is my favorite. I only had a few blossoms this year so I left them on the bush and would stop and smell the "lilacs" when I was out and about!

They are such a gorgeous flower, Kathleen! I love all the different ways you've shown to display them. I think I would do the tureen look. I just planted a lilac bush this year and probably won't get any blooms until next year, but I am already thinking about where I would put the blooms {answer: all over the condo!}.

I love lilacs! They don't grow here in GA (that I'm aware of) so I use fake ones to decorate with. Unfortunately, I don't get to smell them though. Yours are so pretty. I love the different ways you displayed them.
