Anthropologie Floral Monogram 3-D Wall Art

April 6, 2016

I'm excited to be participating in April's Junk Revision Challenge. As self-proclaimed junk visionaries, my friends and I are a group of like-minded DIY bloggers who believe that good things come to those who go junkin' and repurposing! This month's challenge was to create something new out of at least two different "junk" items. I don't know if I'd classify my two thrifted items as "junk" per se, but then I'll let you be the judge of that.

I love Anthropologie. L.O.V. E. But the only time I've ever bought anything from them is when I was lucky enough to score something on serious clearance. I've purchased clothing and some home decor items, all at a steep discount. The only things I didn't get at a discount were some floral monogram letters I picked up when my daughters were babies. I just had to have them to decorate their rooms with. Now they're 16 and 14 years old, and they still have those letters. And I still love them.

So you can imagine my excitement when I found this as I was strolling through Goodwill the other day.

Anthropologie floral monogram letter K

Isn't it lovely? K is my initial ~  times two. It represents my first name as well as my maiden name. And this pattern I just love, love, love. I had actually already been thinking about bringing some vintage florals into our master bedroom, so all I could think of was that it was meant to be. Oh, and it was only 99 cents.

As I continued down the same aisle I then spied this beauty.

Just look at that detail! While I'm always on the lookout for interesting, ornate frames, I rarely ever find any. At least none that I can afford. This day was an exception. Cost: $2.99. Talk about score! And the funniest part is that it didn't take me but a fraction of a second to realize that these two amazing finds went VERY well together. Yes, indeed.

The floral print of the letter went very well with the swirling floral background on the frame's insert. I think someone used it as a memo board previously because I could see the tiny holes that were left there by thumbtacks or small nails. But those little holes didn't bother me one bit.

This is pretty much what it looked like in the store when I placed the letter inside the frame while they were both just sitting in my shopping cart. Right then and there a star was born.

To get my floral K monogram hung just right, I used a trick I learned when I was putting my gallery wall together.

First I traced the K onto a piece of paper and cut it out. Then I placed that cutout onto the back of my 3-D K monogram letter and made marks on the paper over the areas where the two hooks on the back of the K were.I made sure I could see the marks straight through the paper to the other side. Then I placed the K paper, right side out, on the frame backing exactly where I wanted the K to hang and then taped it there for stability. Then I hammered one nail into each of the two markings, leaving me with this.

All that was left was to hang the letter on the two small nails I'd just hammered in.

And voila. I'm very happy with the 3-D effect of the monogram. I also love that the pretty floral fabric compliments the frame's natural swirls and curves in addition to the swirly floral-like pattern on the underlying mat. I'd say that's a match made in Goodwill heaven. How about you?

That frame was definitely a score! And how awesome that you found the 2 items at the same time. Serendipity for sure. Pretty project!

I need to shop at your Goodwill. Our frames are usually around $10 or more. Great finds and great vision putting them together.

Not only did you find a K, but you found the perfect frame in the same isle. That's a sure sign that you should keep thrifting, lol. This is so pretty. Anthropology could not have chosen a more perfect framing choice themselves. Pinning!!
