DIY Vintage-Inspired Bottle Brush Christmas Tree Farm: My Vintage Charm Christmas Blog Hop

Vintage-inspired Mini Christmas Tree Farm collage

Welcome to the Vintage Charm Christmas Blog Hop! I'm excited to share with you an original Christmas decor idea that I think encapsulates a true vintage vibe. And my Vintage Charm Party co-hostesses each have something special to share with you today as well. So be sure to visit their blogs (links below) and check out their own special take on a Vintage Charm Christmas.

Target never ceases to amaze me. With each and every holiday lately their Bullseye Playground area comes through with some incredibly awesome, inexpensive stuff. Just my kind of place. Case in point: one $3.00 wooden Christmas dinner plate charger. When I looked at it I didn't see a charger, I saw possibilities. A blank slate, if you will.

I originally saw it as some sort of wall art (with the right Christmas theme, of course) but after I got it home I had a different idea.

How about a vintage-inspired mini Christmas tree farm?

I pulled together some bottle brush trees in a few different colors and sizes. Then I scattered them around the charger, followed by a smattering of faux snow. I remember my mom using bottle brush trees to decorate the house around Christmas time. It's so nice to be able to pick them up at craft stores, Target and even Wal-Mart pretty inexpensively. To me they really epitomize what a vintage holiday scene looks like.

Next I tied one of those trees on top of a blue retro roadster, a la the Dollar Tree. So much cooler-looking than if I had used a contemporary, more modern-day car.

I used a bit of red jute for some added color.

Then I threw in some of my mini reindeer that were not already being used in my various DIY snow globes.

Is this one not adorable?

I rummaged through an old Scrabble game that I picked up at Goodwill to find the perfect letters.

And there it is.

I eventually attached the charger to a thrifted candlestick with candle sticky wax. I didn't go so far as to secure the figurines to it since I knew the display wasn't going anywhere (no more little hands to potentially knock over my work). But glue dots would probably work.

I made the mini "Trees 4 Sale" chalkboard sign out of a cupcake pick I got from the Target dollar bin last year.

I absolutely L.O.V.E. this car! And I liked the fact that I switched it up from the usual red car or pick-up truck with a Christmas tree in the back.

Ironically, my vintage-inspired DIY Christmas pillow bearing a red car with a tree on the roof is in the background of this idyllic winter scene.

So where do you buy your Christmas tree? A tree farm like this one, or a local lot that sells pre-felled trees by the dozen? We tend to buy a fresh one without the "cutting down ourselves" part, although that would certainly add a bit of vintage charm to the whole process. We might try that next year.

Maybe you use an artificial tree instead and that's ok, too. No matter what kind of tree you have you can still celebrate your very own vintage charm Christmas!

Well, that's it for today, friends!

So fun! I agree on Target's bargain bins. I haven't made a trip in awhile and am feeling withdrawl pangs ;) Love the roadster--your dollar tree has the best merch!

I love this, Kathleen...pure whimsy and fun! We have an artificial flocked tree...the last year we had a real one, my husband had to get stitches from the saw. But that's another story lol.

That is adorable Kathleen! You can never go wrong with bottle brush trees. That little car is very sweet, and your pillow is so perfect with the tree farm coffee table centrepiece. We put up two artificial trees just because I love to look at them so they need to be up for a long time. We sometimes do one real one, but the cats tend to like the smell even more than we do. lol. Maybe we'll try that again next year.

Kathleen, that is way too cute! I love it! The car is perfect too - different as you said. I love Target's Spot section. I can find such great stuff there (and did)! I like how you used the charger - sure makes a great base for your tree farm!

Love your bottle brush tree farm. It is just so cute. I usually put up several smaller trees rather that I can manage on my own but miss have a large tree.

Oh, I love this, Kathleen. It is simply adorable and the colors are just perfect. It brings back such nostalgic and wonderful memories.

We have done Christmas trees all sorts of ways over the years; cutting our own from our own land; cutting our own from a tree farm; buying pre-cut from a tree farm; and, lately, even artificial trees. One year when we cut our own tree from a Christmas tree farm, they were offering sleigh or wagon rides with draft horses. That was the best!

Absolutely adorable, Kathy--you come up with the very best ideas! So creative and just plain fun. I've made a few diorama-type displays this year, too, but haven't posted about them yet. Hopefully, I'll get around to it. Yours is just awesome--

Have already finished decorating, put rest of "stuff" away in shed to keep myself being much simpler and much less cluttered in our small living room.
Printed out tho for notebook I keep of ideas want to do next year. After Thanksgiving get notebook and folder out of ideas thought would work with what I have.
This is such an adorable idea, easy, quick, affordable, gotta love that idea. Will get myself a new car and more colored trees , make little sign. Will be ready to go. Maybe will be lucky to find scrabble game to get letters to use.
Love your wood charger from Target. Have pillow like yours gotten at Target on sale last year but darned if could find it. Was lucky to get little "joy" pillow at Habitat, guess will just have to do, not digging up more decorations for this year. Making myself cool it.
Hubs gets cabin fever when I do too much (and very cranky).
Last year had right shoulder replaced on 12/7 so had to keep things simple, we both liked it better than too much which I tend to do, so decided would do simple from now on, what a relief after holidays.
Have wonderful weekend - hugs

What a fun creation using that wooden charger.

We used to but down our Christmas tree with the kids every year and we loved it. But, now they are gone and we meet for a family vacation somewhere (this year it will be Carmel) so we stopped buying real trees. I never thought I would buy artificial, but a pencil tree is literally the only tree that fits in our tiny house.

Thanks for sharing with Creating Christmas

This totally makes me think of my younger days and going to a tree farm with my friend and her family. I think they had one of those woody style station wagons. Such a fun project!

This is adorable. What a beautiful post. I guess we are all loving little trucks this year.

It was fun joining you on this link party.

Kathleen this is so cute. I love the little blue tree and the red truck. You scored with that $3 charger, I love Target so I'll have to keep my eye opened and hopefully they have them again this year. Visiting from the Blogging 50 Linky Party.
