Thrifty Vintage Finds: Thrill of the Hunt #78

Hunting for vintage and thrift store finds is my passion and I love sharing what I've found with you in my Thrill of the Hunt posts. There really is something to be said for finding a great estate sale and then coming across some cool collectibles or something you've been waiting for a lifetime to find. In this Thrill of the Hunt I'm going to be sharing more recent finds from my favorite local, seasonal pop-up estate sale. You can see where I shared four other thrifty finds from this same sale in Thrill of the Hunt #77

faux boxwood topiary urn planter

I've always been an avid topiary admirer. Especially boxwood. And as far as I'm concerned, the bigger the better. So you know I did a happy dance when I saw this 26 inch high boxwood topiary and the price tag said only $6.00. These things are normally super expensive  in the every day, so this was a true thrifty find.

Up close you can see the lovely faux boxwood leaves. It is incredibly full. My only hesitation at this point is whether or not to paint the urn white. I think that project will come in time. But overall, for $6.00, I couldn't be happier with it.

thrifted fall pillow pumpkin acorn

This pillow was my expensive purchase from the sale. I let myself get wrangled into paying $10 for it, which for me is practically exhorbitant. But I loved it, it was literally like new and it had such incredible detail to it.

Look at that detail. I'm not sure what to call it -- crewel, embroidery, or what. Heck, I'm not even sure if it's supposed to be a pumpkin or an acorn. But either way I think it makes for some great fall decor.

vintage white wicker lidded trunk

I hesitated on this one but knew deep down that I really wanted it. I've always had this fantasy of having a screened in porch that I could decorate with things like white wicker. A girl can dream, right?

It's definitely vintage by the looks of it and who doesn't love multifunctional decor? It can act as a side table as well as a storage chest. I thought it was a great deal for $5.00.

woven sea grass storage ottoman lidded

After staging the new boxwood topiary on this large, thrifted ottoman storage basket I realized that I never shared the basket with you as a thrifty find. I got it at Goodwill for $3.99.

I loved the way it looked, but the best part was that it had a lid and could pull double duty as storage. Both inside and out were like new. I immediately filled it with file folders. I think that it can even stand in as a low side table if I place one of my thrifted trays on top.

The woven detail really is impressive, and the little feet give it a nice, finished look. I found similar ottoman storage baskets online selling for $85.00. It goes a long way to adding some nice, natural texture to the overall decor of my farmhouse dining room and living room. And you certainly can't go wrong with decor that's both beautiful and functional. It's a win-win in my book.

Would you have purchased any of today's Thrill of the Hunt finds? Pillows, baskets and topiaries are all some of my absolute favorite things to find while out hunting. What are some of your favorites?

I always love your finds. I am beginning to appreciate textures a lot more after reading blogs! I have appreciated color since a college weaving course in '72! Although I have a small boxwood Christmas tree-shaped tree, no others have come in my thrifty way. I love white wicker, too and always wanted a deck full; Maine's season is awfully short. However, my half bath has an over the toilet etagere, hamper, shelf unit, and waste basket set! Vintage '88! Love your storage basket with lid; I would definitely put a tray on it to keep your kids' friends from sitting on it depending on how rugged it is!!
