DIY Fall Farmhouse Sign Made Out Of Dollar Tree Decor

DIY Fall Wall Art From Dollar Tree Sign

Fall is a great time to have fun creating a DIY fall farmhouse sign to decorate your home. I traditionally decorate for mainly a general "fall" vibe, with a bit of Halloween and then a touch of Thanksgiving thrown in. Today I'm excited to share an easy, inexpensive DIY fall farmhouse sign that can easily be used now through Thanksgiving. So let's get started!

Hello Fall mason jar hanging sign

It all started with this darling mason jar sign from Dollar Tree, one of my many Dollar Tree fall finds. While I liked the red truck and pumpkins, I just wasn't feeling it for the sign as a whole. But for $1.00 I knew I could find a way to use it. I mean, who doesn't love mason jars? So in the cart it went.

After sleeping on it, I decided to turn the mason jar around and "redo" it on the back to my liking, just like I did last Christmas with my DIY Rustic Shiplap Farmhouse Christmas Sign

First I painted it white (two coats).

And then I used a pencil to draw lines across it to make it look like shiplap. Finally, I dry-brushed it with acrylic paint in burnt umber to make it look like the "wood" was aged somewhat.

That big blob of dark paint up at the top left is a fine example of what happens if you use too much paint on your brush when using this technique! Be forewarned. I was going to paint more white over it but decided to cover it with a decoration of some sort instead.

Here's what I chose to cover the paint blotch, a plaid bow from Dollar Tree.

Then the question became what else should I put on the sign? I was really drawn to these adhesive wood shapes I picked up from Target's Bullseye Playground for $1.00 a pack. I never used the pumpkin and gourd shapes, though. I also picked up some adhesive cursive words -- grateful and thankful (sorry, no picture).

It took me a few tries to get it how I like it but here's the end result.

The words "welcome home" made me think of our two daughters who will be coming home from college for Thanksgiving. And I've always associated the words "grateful" and "thankful" with Thanksgiving as well.

Overall I think it cost me somewhere around $3.50. And I can still turn it around and use the original front side if I ever change my mind!

You can really do a lot with a pre-made "template" like this one. Just use your imagination -- the sky's the limit. The best part is that it's super affordable. And if you're not in a crafty mood, I'm sure you'll be able to find a seasonal sign or two at Dollar Tree that you can love, just the way they are!

Well, that's it until next time, friends!

Cute! I love reversible decorations--more bang for the same buck! I am very partial to red trucks and missed that one at our local DT!
