barn sale chinoiserie ginger jar

Welcome, friends, to another fun-filled Thrill of the Hunt post where I share my latest thrifty (and usually) vintage finds with you. Today I'm all about three late-summer barn sale scores -- and they all have something in common with each other. Read on to find out how they're related.

I may have mentioned on Instagram that I seem to have "accidentally" started a new collection -- I've become a chinoiserie  lover. And the quintessential example of chinoiserie is a ginger jar. I've been looking for one for a while, but -- you guessed it -- they're always too expensive. Even local home decor stores are selling small ones for $40 and up. And vintage ones? Forget about it.

So I nearly jumped for joy when I saw this large ginger jar in a preview Facebook post of an upcoming local barn sale. We were there early with bells on and I scoped out the barn and made a bee line for it. Score!

While the pattern on it isn't traditional chinoiserie, I was still in love.

It's rather large, and is in perfect condition.

I do believe it's vintage considering everything else at the barn sale was clearly vintage. (I also brought home another great score from this sale, so stay tuned!)  Unfortunately it doesn't have a maker's mark.

  For $20 I was a happy camper.

Moving on, here's a piece I picked up at a different barn sale within a few days of the ginger jar score. I was thrilled to go with the blue and white pattern, reminiscent of chinoiserie.

I thought that being a porcelain "basket" made it just different enough to be remarkable.

I filled it with velvet pumpkins and placed it on the mantel with my DIY Chinoiserie Pumpkins.

And for just $3.00 I think it more than fits right in!

Buddha pattern Wood & Sons china creamer

Last but not least is yet another blue and white china piece -- this time in the form of a vintage creamer. The pattern is called "Buddha" from Wood & Sons of England.

Just look at the lovely detailed handle.

Such a pretty pattern.

I can't find it for sale anywhere, but I did find the matching lidded sugar bowl from Replacements Ltd. selling for $41.99. I paid $5.00 for it.

Buddha Wood & Sons England maker's mark
According to some research, this maker's mark tells me that the creamer was made pre-1910 when the company became Wood & Sons Ltd. So I'd say that it's a fine example of antique English tableware!

So have you figured out the connection between these three thrifty finds?  Blue. And. White. I've become obsessed with the color combo, even in other areas of home decor like textiles -- pillows and throws -- and even artwork. So don't be surprised to see a somewhat about-face in my decorating style in the upcoming months.

And if you've become as smitten as I have with the style -- or you've just become curious about it -- and don't want to leave it up to chance, I'm adding a few similar items you can browse for yourself below!  (Be sure to hover and click beneath the photos so you'll be taken to the appropriate Amazon link. If you hover near the tops of the photos you will only be brought to Pinterest.)

Love your blue and white finds. The pieces you got are so versatile, too. They can all become vases in a pinch. I love sugar bowls/creamers/small baskets for short stemmed flowers--and they don't block the view across the table either!
