Thrill of the Hunt #106

Welcome, friends, to another fun-filled Thrill of the Hunt post where I share my latest thrifty (and usually) vintage finds with you. Today it's all about amber glass, one lonely salt shaker and a cozy lighted holiday cottage. So let's get started.

amber bud vase fall foliage mantel decor

This year I vowed to start an amber glass collection to use for fall decor. I've seen so many pretty amber bottles on Instagram and Pinterest and I became kind of obsessed with them. I really fell in love with all the extra large demi-john-like bottles filled with fall foliage, feathers or candles. But a girl's gotta start somewhere, right? Enter these two small, delicate beauties. While they're only bud vases, their color is exactly what I was looking for.

I filled each of them with fall floral picks from Dollar Tree.

This bud vase has grapes etched into it. I thought that made it look all the more delicate. I also did a little research. I found this one for sale on Ebay for $14.75 and on Etsy for $12.00. I think I paid 99 cents apiece for them. But I still don't have any idea as to their age. I'm guessing they're from the 1950's or 1960's.

Between now and next fall I'll be on the hunt for one of those large, amber demi-john bottles I mentioned. It might also be fun to look for some brown transferware to go with it as well!

blue white porcelain salt shaker

Some might call me crazy for buying this lone salt (or pepper?) shaker at Goodwill. But I just couldn't resist! Many of you know that I have become a true chinoiserie lover and this blue and white pattern truly reminded me of chinoiserie.

At a minimum I thought it could pass for a blue willow pattern. I'll be displaying it with my growing chinoiserie collection.

made in Japan makers mark salt shaker rubber stopper

The maker's mark says Japan. I'm not sure how old it is but I do know that it can't be that old since the stopper (if it's original) is rubber, as opposed at cork. It has to be at least post-1952 which is the year they stopped stamping things with "Occupied Japan." I'm not sure of the exact year they started using plastic stoppers but if you do know please leave a comment!

Target Dollar Spot porcelain gold roof bisque house

While this is a Target Dollar Spot item, I picked it up new and unused at Goodwill for -- you guessed it-- $1.99.

As soon as I saw it I thought: "Christmas!" It has a battery-powered votive light inside.

And since it was $5.00 at Target I feel like I definitely got a bargain for only $1.99.

Here it is on display with some vintage ironstone creamers, vintage silver ice bucket and vintage stoneware crocks.

I love how it looks on my vintage French farmhouse clock table. And I think the flocked Christmas tree and flocked greens with white berries give the vignette a decidedly holiday flair. I'm loving how it looks turned on at night, too! Sometimes the simplest of displays make the most impact.

Well, that's it until next time, friends!

Great finds, Kathleen! I picked up a pair of little white houses this month, too. ;)

You found some great things, Kathleen. My 'hunting' has been suspended due to growing Covid case numbers. It really hurt this weekend when there was an estate sale only a block away.....and I didn't go.

A lone salt shaker is great for cinnamon and sugar, red pepper, paprika, etc. or great for holding hatpins, fine glitter, or wire-stemmed flowers. I love blue and white dishes, too, and could never have enough. I immediately thought your white house would be cute for St. Patrick's Day with a few accessories!
