Since last summer I have become somewhat obsessed with blue and white decor, specifically chinoiserie-patterned everything. So what better way to express that love than to design and create an elegant chinoiserie blue, white and gold Christmas tree?

LIVE VERSUS ARTIFICIAL CHRISTMAS TREES

7’ Slim Flocked Montreal Fir Christmas Tree with 300 Warm White LED Lights and 995 Bendable Branches

Up until last year I was a full-fledged "live" Christmas tree kind of girl. But last year I tried something different -- I agreed to try a flocked artificial Christmas tree from Nearly Natural -- and I loved it so much that I agreed to do it again.

This year I chose a seven foot slim flocked Montreal fir Christmas tree, with 995 bendable branches and 300 warm white LED lights. I've never had a slim, or pencil, Christmas tree before so I was very excited to get this one and start decorating.

PROS AND CONS: ARTIFICIAL VERSUS REAL

There are so many pros to buying an artificial Christmas tree. Pay once and your investment lasts for years. No pesky needles to clean up. No need to water it. No need to find a place to dispose of it. No allergies to worry about. And today they're very realistic and pre-lit! No need to mess with tangled strands of lights! Not really finding any cons . . . . Need I say more?

TIP:

I have to admit that artificial trees don't provide us with the lovely pine scent that signals Christmas season has officially arrived. Never fear -- I just sneak in a few of these scented stick ornaments and the problem is solved: Scentsicles. They've been so effective that I actually place them back into their containers after Christmas and they still smell the following year!

The Nearly Natural Tree

Once my Nearly Natural artificial slim flocked tree arrived I easily attached its three sections (bottom, middle and top) onto the tree base and gently "fluffed" the individual branches to prepare it for decorating. And having the lights already attached was just the icing on the cake! Each of the three sections' cords attach to the next, creating a seamless string of warm, glowing lights. It really was super easy!

The Flocking

This slim Christmas tree is flocked to perfection. There was only slight shedding during the set-up, which I loved, and even after being fully decorated you can still clearly see and appreciate the flocking.

I loved this slim flocked Montreal fir so much that I was tempted to leave it unadorned. I think I love flocked trees so much because they definitely add a vintage feel to your Christmas decor, and as you know I'm a vintage kind of girl.

But rest assured, whatever your preference, Nearly Natural has artificial Christmas trees for everyone!

TIP:

Before ordering your tree, be sure to measure the ceiling height in the room you want to place the tree. The seven foot tree was just the right height for our living room.

I think it works especially well in this corner with the fireplace and my thrifted Louis XV French Bergere chair. While the chairs are not that easy to find at thrift stores (I was super lucky!), you can find somewhat similar ones, like this fabric wing chair, online.

The theme is a chinoiserie chic Christmas tree with blue, white and gold decorations. I DIY'd blue and white chinoiserie decorations that laid the foundation for the whole tree. Blue berry picks and extra large sparkly blue balls were also added in for effect.

I've become a huge fan of using ribbon as opposed to garland on my Christmas trees, and this navy blue and gold ribbon couldn't be more perfect. I also splurged and purchased (with left over money from last Christmas!) a few adorable mini ginger jar ornaments.

At first I was reluctant to use extra large Christmas balls on a slim tree, but I found that they really create a strong visual impact that I think is absolutely stunning. Your eyes are really drawn to them. Besides those extra large balls and the chinoiserie ornaments, I just added some standard size gold and blue Christmas balls to round out the look. I'm calling this year's tree "Chinoiserie Chic."

The lights really do emit a lovely glow, especially on dreary, gray, fall and winter days. Of course the day I took this photo it was quite sunny out so you can't fully appreciate the lights. Unfortunately, I didn't get any night photos. But trust me, the 300 warm LED lights are just perfect.

I color-coordinated some blue and gold gift wrapping paper in keeping with the theme. I even used the blue and gold tree ribbon (garland) as ribbon for some of the gifts.

My neutral backdrop of white (the fireplace) and gray (the walls) allows the colors to really pop.

I am absolutely in love with this tree!

And that large rustic winter wreath on the front of the fireplace? It's another Nearly Natural creation that fits so well on those vintage shutters I've placed there as a backdrop.

I fell in love with the blue berries, white stems and rustic pine cones. Their colors mimic that of the chinoiserie decorations!

This is definitely a wreath that can be left up all winter long, not just at Christmas time.

I know I'll be using this artificial pine and pine cone wreath as winter seasonal decor for many years to come.

In keeping with the chinoiserie theme, I decorated the mantel with some of my ginger jars.

I also added blue berry picks and pine cones, to match the wreath's embellishments.

The frosted pine cones really help to bring in a rustic, textural element which juxtaposes the elegance of the ginger jars.

While this elegant chinoiserie Christmas living room is a far cry from last year's farmhouse Christmas bedroom (which I loved), I believe there's room for both kinds of Christmas styles, and then some. (I'll probably decorate a farmhouse style tree in the family room this year as well.) How many Christmas trees do you put up each year?

I have to admit that this tree was put up and decorated way before my usual Christmas decorating timeline, but we bloggers have to be ahead of the seasonal decorating curve when it comes to posting relevant content. On the plus side, I'm excited to be able to enjoy our beautiful chinoiserie slim flocked Christmas tree starting now.
