Just when I think I'm done with discovering new styles of dishes and serveware to fall in love with, along comes something that sets me off on a new collecting adventure. Currently, it's majolica-inspired asparagus serveware and cabbage ware.
The latest piece in my collection is a vintage majolica-inspired asparagus pitcher I picked up for a song. But there's more to the story than that -- I didn't totally love it, so I looked into transforming it with a little paint to make it more my style. Little did I know that that would not be necessary!

Here's a picture taken of the back side of the majolica asparagus
pitcher. It's sitting on the front passenger seat of my car as I drove
home from the Salvation Army store. I was so excited I found it that I
texted this picture of it to my daughter!
While I disliked the color of the bow that wrapped around the pitcher, I knew I could paint over it and turn it into something more akin to my vision (can you say pink?). And even with having to do that, I knew it would be worth it since it only cost me $3.97. Yes, $3.97.
Crazily enough, when I went to repaint the "bow," I realized that its weird color might have been the result of someone else painting over the original color! It was obvious that the paint on the bow was matte, while the paint on the rest of the pitcher was clearly glazed. Hence my belief that someone meddled with the original paint on the bow.
And upon close inspection I noticed some pink peeking out from under the matte paint -- it was rubbing off! (And just look at that exquisite detail on the handle and the rim!)
Chairish has one for sale for $135.
Lynne's Lavender is selling one for $45.
Last but not least eBay is selling one for $29.99. All three have the same imprint on the bottom: "Made in Italy" and a number stamped into it. Clearly, I got a deal!
I thought that if the bow was painted with matte acrylic paint, then that paint should be removable with water. So I went about gently scrubbing it with a wet paper towel while running it under water in the sink. And the matte paint came off, revealing the original pink colored bow!
No need to repaint anything now! It is perfect! Here it is on the kitchen counter right after I finished cleaning off the matte paint, revealing the "pretty-in-pink" bow!
I couldn't wait to display my new majolica-inspired asparagus pitcher along with my recently acquired cabbage ware plates, teapot and tea cups from Target.
So I placed it on the dining room table atop my new darling Pioneer Woman jute crochet table runner in lobster bisque from Wal-Mart.
I also added some vintage linen napkins I recently picked up from a consignment shop.
I couldn't believe how well the asparagus pitcher complimented the cabbage ware, as well as the pink lettuce vase filled with fresh flowers in the middle of the table. It also melded seamlessly with the "lobster bisque" pink on the jute runner's border.
The style is perfect for every day display, as well as spring and Easter-inspired vignettes. I'm looking forward to thrifting even more majolica-inspired and cabbage ware pottery to add to my collection!
Well, that's it for today, friends!
