HOW TO MAKE A TEA CUP PIN CUSHION
SUPPLIES
1. tea cup, preferably thrifted
If you'd like to get your hands on one similar to mine, check out this Pink Rose Floral Tea Cup and Saucer.
HERE'S THE HACK*, FOLKS:
2.* Dollar Tree wrist pin cushion (they come in both blue and pink floral -- I used pink to match my tea cup )

3. Scotch double-sided tape (or E-6000 clear glue)
STEP ONE:
Adhere double-sided tape around the inside rim of the tea cup where you want to secure the pin cushion.
How cute is this figural flower tea cup and leaf-shaped saucer? I got them at Goodwill for $1.99 and 99 cents, respectively. The tea cup reminds me of Thumbelina! Get a similar one here.
CAVEAT: The tea cup has to be large enough (but not too large) to fit the pin cushion inside it. For reference, my cushion bottom measures 2 1/2" across, and the cup opening measures approximately 3 1/2" across.
STEP TWO:
Insert your pin cushion into the tea cup. (I removed the decorative button on the side of the pin cushion to ensure a snug fit into the cup.)
STEP THREE:
Add your straight pins, preferably colorful ones, and you're done!
Could that be any easier? While I admit the double sided tape isn't the most secure way to adhere the pin cushion to the tea cup, I want to be able to easily remove it in the future.
Since it's only tape, I can just remove the pin cushion from the tea cup when I need to use it, and then place it back into the cup once I'm done. Cuteness restored.
ADDED BONUS: If you do it this way you can store a few sewing supplies
inside the cup!
However, if you'd prefer to glue the pin cushion inside the cup, I'd recommend E-6000 clear glue.
In keeping with the vintage-inspired vibe, I found an adorable pin cushion in my sewing box -- a tomato pin cushion (thrifted, of course)! Wouldn't it also make a great tea cup pin cushion? How cute would that be (with the right tea cup, of course)? Just plop the "tomato" in, and let the attached "emery" pin sharpener hang over the side of the cup.
I remember my mom had one of these when I was a kid. I love that they still sell them today:

If you're not lucky enough to have a Dollar Tree near you that carries adorable wrist pin cushions like mine for your DIY project, you can certainly find inexpensive wrist pin cushions elsewhere:

Finally, you can always skip to the front of the line and buy a pre-made tea cup pin cushion! I searched around online and found that Etsy had the cutest ones.
Not to toot my own horn here, but I've looked at many DIY tea cup pin
cushions made by creatives/bloggers and I have to say that I found most of them unremarkable. Admittedly, I personally did not create the actual pin cushion, but
for $1.25 and total cuteness, why would I?
Well, that's it until next time,
friends!
