Even if you're a DIY and thrifting nut like me, sometimes you just gotta buy the thing. While I'm a self-professed penny-pincher, even I have to admit that sometimes it's just plain easier (and perhaps equally frugal) to buy that coveted home decor item rather than making it yourself.
With fall on the horizon, that coveted home decor item, for me, is an autumnal painting with ghosts added in for a spooky Halloween effect. Could I make one myself? Probably. Can I also buy a reasonably priced one? Defintitely. And that's exactly what I did -- with no shame whatsoever -- despite my frugal DIY DNA. Today I'm sharing it, along with some free resources for Halloween art -- so let's get started!

We've all seen the viral DIY ghost wall art paintings on social media and blogs -- you just buy a thrifted painting and add in your own little ghosts with some acrylic paint for a cute Halloween effect. I've wanted to make one for a year.
I still haven't done it, mainly because I couldn't even draw a stick person if my life depended on it.
Enter Home Goods. As a thrifter, I rarely shop there, but something called me to their store recently so I stopped in (sometimes I get good ideas for DIY and/or copycat home decor there). Lo and behold, within the first 60 seconds, I spied one of the cutest Halloween ghost paintings I've ever seen.
Added bonus: the background art itself was of an autumnal nature, something I would absolutely buy even without the ghost. Fall is my favorite time of year, and though I swear each year not to buy any more fall decor I sometimes can't help myself.
Seeing it brings me joy! And for that, sometimes you just gotta buy the thing! While I know I could get a cheaper vintage painting at Goodwill, I'd still have to do the work of adding in the ghost. So for $14.99, I was okay with it.
Even the frame appeared to be vintage-inspired and worked well with my other fall art displayed on the shelf above.
You might just miss the ghost if you don't look closely enough. But that's the point -- this fall art piece can stand alone even without the ghost add-on.
If you can't find a similar painting at your Home Goods (or elsewhere), you can always pick up some really cute Halloween ghost art online.

There are also places you can get FREE cute and/or spooky Halloween art, including Public Domain Pictures. I got this Vintage Kids Trick or Treat Halloween art by Circe Denyer on their website. I've printed this one out and will be framing it for Halloween.
The images are offered with a Public Domain License, meaning you can use and modify them for your personal and commercial projects.
I also completely fell in love with this Circe Denyer Halloween art.
Then I found these cute ghosts, also on Public Domain Pictures: Halloween Ghost Vintage Art Poster by Tip Linnaea.
While you can print out and/or share their free images at 1920 x 1920 pixels, you can also pay a fee for better quality images (4088 x 4088 px, 5.66 MB) if you are so inclined.
I found this cute ghost image on Pixabay after searching for "Halloween ghost." The search resulted in 207 pages of free ghost images! It's definitely worth a look.
I'm sure there are even more free Halloween/ghost images available out there -- just google "free images," and numerous websites come up that you can then search for whatever type of image you're looking for. Great for printing and framing, or for fall and/or Halloween crafts.
It's a great way to spend a gloomy fall Saturday afternoon, pumpkin spice latte in hand!
And you can always use those same websites for other seasonal and holiday images as well.
Now back to my initial premise: Sometimes you just gotta buy the thing! Trust me -- you are so worth it.
