It's no secret that vintage shopping is one of my absolute favorite past
times. And while it's wonderful to discover new vintage shopping venues, it's
also lovely to visit some of my old favorites, like Elizabeth's Grand Antique Company in Elizabeth, Illinois.
It's become a tradition to visit there every New Year's day while
staying in nearby historic Galena, Illinois. And so far, it hasn't
disappointed.
Elizabeth's Grand Antique Company is 30,000 square feet of antiques, vintage, collectibles, home decor and hand crafted goods. Situated in a historic 1889 school building, it has over 220 vendors.
In addition they have a cafe -- Cafe 1889 -- for coffee and such, as well as -- wait for it -- a bar called Antiquities Ale & Vine.
Yes, they have a bar! You can order wine and/or beer and sit enjoying it either inside or outside on the terrace. You can sip and shop! I think that's a wonderful added bonus to any thrifting trip.
The bar and cafe area are regally appointed in period pieces, from the
mahogany bar to the velvet couches. I only wished it wasn't winter so
that we could sit on the terrace and enjoy a libation after out
vintage shopping excursion.
With 220 vendors, the merchandise is always quite varied- -- from dishes
to clothing to lamps to you name it. Such a plethora of vintage
finds! This is a view looking down from the second of FOUR levels.
The fact that it was still decorated for the holidays and had vintage holiday items for sale didn't hurt.
I just love those vintage Christmas carolers!
Vintage china is one of my favorite vintage items to hunt for.
I'm also very partial to vintage floral artwork.
I was really tempted to buy this peacock lamp!
I absolutely can't get enough of vintage chandeliers, of which the had many!
Elizabeth's Grand Antique Company is, without a doubt, a unique vintage shopping destination that I would recommend to anyone! For those of you in the midwest, it's only two and a half hours outside of Chicago. And you can't go wrong with visiting Galena, Illinois, either. To learn more about Galena visit my post Historic Galena Illinois.
Per usual I lucked out with a great haul that I'll be sharing with you soon!
Well, that's it for today, friends!
