DIY Gold Bow Candle Holders

March 15, 2026

Have you noticed how bows are permeating the home decor realm? From mirrors to ceramics to candle holders -- bows are definitely having their day in home decor circles.

Personally, I've become enamored of the gold bow candle holders I've seen out in the wild lately. So why not make some of my own?

When it comes to décor trends that are both timeless and contemporary, gold bows have surged into the spotlight. These shimmering accents are transforming everything from seasonal displays to everyday spaces -- and for good reason.

Whether you're planning a party, styling shelves, or refreshing your home for the holidays, gold bows bring a touch of sophistication and sparkle.

Gold has always been synonymous with luxury, celebration, and warmth. But in recent seasons, designers and DIY decorators alike have embraced gold bows not just as a seasonal accent, but as a versatile styling tool.

So when I came across these lovely gold bow barrettes at Dollar Tree, I had to buy a few sets. My brain was going a mile a minute -- I knew what I wanted to do with them!

One of the favorite gold bow decor items I'd seen were candle holders. Which brought me to these gold Dollar Tree candle holders.

I had two different sizes and thought they'd both be perfect for this gold bow candle holder project. To say this was an easy project would be an understatement!

Step 1. Remove the clips from the back of each barrette. I drew the red circles above to highlight the two pieces that were attached to each other. (My bad: I should have laid the metal clips in the opposite direction to indicate which side of the bow they were removed from. Hence the arrow to indicate that.)

Since the end of the wire clip already has a break in it (just like a jump ring used for jewelry) all I had to do was wiggle the clip until the break in the wire appeared and then pull it out.

Step 2. Hot glue the bows onto the candle holders.

Yup, that's it. I thought it was a match made in heaven.

While you can certainly place the bows anywhere on the candle holder (say, at the top), I chose to place mine around the midsection of the stems.

Adding the bows turned a couple of ho-hum candle holders into elegant decor.

The gold candle holders go perfectly with the gold mirrors on my bedroom mantel.

I first picked up the Louise Brongniart bust while thrifting, followed by finding her brother, Alexandre, on another thrift outing.

I really think they add to the romantic mood of the mantel.

While this was a super easy project, if you don't have access to the materials needed you can certainly purchase ready made gold bow taper candle holders. I've placed examples and links for you below.

NOTE: Other than the first two examples, the prices are considerably higher than my DIY project.
