Thrill of the Hunt #44 (Can You Say Easter Bunny?)

April 7, 2017

I will say that sometimes the thrift store gods choose to shine upon you and grant you an awesome thrifting week. Other weeks, not so much. I'm happy to report that last week's thrifting was more than awesome. So much so that I'm going to have to divide up the goodies and share them in three posts!

Welcome back to Thrill of the Hunt #44! I am so happy you're here and can't wait to share with you my latest thrifty finds! With Easter right around the corner I thought I'd start with some adorable porcelain bunny mugs from Hallmark.

I spotted one of these cuties on the bottom shelf at Goodwill. I recently vowed to never buy another bunny/Easter decoration for as long as I live, but I couldn't resist! And as I bent over to grab the mug I saw that there were actually five more bunny mugs for the taking! Picturing them filled with Easter candy and pretty spring flowers, I scooped them all up!

Fast forward to when I got home and looked them up online. Their bottoms read: "HMK. LIC. Made in China." I googled based on that and found out that they are manufactured by Hallmark and are a part of one of their popular porcelain collections. They're collectibles! Who knew? And the first thing I found online was a resale website that was asking for $79.99 for 6! Whoa, I was both shocked and pleasantly surprised at the same time.

I also saw them individually priced on various websites for around $25.00 apiece.

Hallmark Easter Bunny Porcelain Mug Set is SOLD.

thrift store gilded mirror

I've always been a sucker for a pretty mirror. Especially if that mirror is cheap. That's why I was thrilled to find this ornate gold mirror at Goodwill for only $3.99. I'm partial to gold ones, but still always end up debating whether or not to paint them white.

I've toyed with the idea of a creating a "mirror wall," kind of like a gallery wall, just with all mirrors.

The mirror wall is another idea that was originally meant for our "new house" once we moved  - which never happened. No move, no mirror wall.

But I'd still love to try it in our current house. It's just that when you've lived somewhere for 13 years most of the walls are already covered. I'm not totally sure where I could pull it off.

I really like the way it looks inside the white frame with the boxwood wreath hanging over it. Maybe I can find a wall that I can hang it all on.

Considering how much I love this mirror I'm sure I'll find a place for it.

I was lucky enough to visit a vintage flea market with my daughter last week. I didn't find much (the thrifting gods were markedly absent) but I did find this.

If you've been reading this blog for any amount of time you already know about my obsession with snow globes. I look for snow globe fillers all year long. And when I saw this vintage Christmas ornament I knew I had a winner. 36 years old! This Betsey Clark 1981 Christmas ornament is SOLD.

Is it not absolutely adorable? From the flocked tree to the still-sparkling faux snow to my favorite deer - I was in love!

Here it is in its original box. It even has a fake woodland background.

Lo and behold it, too, like my bunny mugs, was a Hallmark original. I had a hunch it might also be a collectible so I turned to Google once again. And boy was I shocked at what I found. The first online sale I found was asking $85.00 for it.  Apparently, ornaments by the designer Betsey Clark are well sought after. Feeling this price was probably pretty inflated, I continued looking. And I have to say that the cheapest price I found was $38.95.  Not bad for a flea market find!

I think the expression on that little boy's (and the deer's) face is priceless. I was SO happy with this little find!

Well, that's it for now. I still have quite a few other finds to share and I'm happy about that, too. But you'll have to meet me at Thrill of the Hunt #45 to see what I mean.

Well, that's it until next time, friends!

I hope you enjoyed reading about

I love your finds! I'd have scooped up the bunnies as well...so cute! That mirror is gorgeous! I like it in the white frame too. The ornament will make an adorable snow globe - I'll be looking for it this Christmas. 😉
Hugs,
Cecilia

GREAT finds! I LOVE those bunny cups and couldn't have resisted them either--even though I am 'downsizing'...hahahahah. Can't wait to see what you do with the little Hallmark ornament. xo Diana

When doing your research to find a good price to charge for items, look at "completed listings". People can ask for any price, but until they have someone who is willing to pay what they are asking, they haven't sold the item. So, a better indicator of what people are willing to pay is to look for the "completed listings". That is IF you are willing to sell!!!

The mugs are so, so sweet.

LOVE those bunny mugs, Kathleen! And what a great price--I feel like they would have been way overpriced at my thrift stores. Hope you have a great weekend :)

Hi Kathleen!
I have that exact same Christmas ornament. It was news to me that it's so collectible! Glad to know it & can't believe those prices! Don't think I'm going to sell it though. It is a sweet little ornament. Love the bunny mugs you found! Surprised they were on a bottom shelf considering that it's almost Easter, but oh well. All in all, great finds!

Love those bunny planters...mugs...whatever they are! I also have that same little ornament. Had no idea it was so valuable, but it's a keeper.
