Holy Family Cloche for Christmas: The Mindful Christmas Home

October 31, 2025

Welcome to the first installment of The Mindful Christmas Home! Today's focus: the Holy Family at Christmas.

I've always been a fan of the Christmas creche. I even have the vintage creche my parents displayed every year at Christmas, which holds a truly special place in my heart. But this year I felt the need to simplify things and cut right to the chase: my own simple version of a Nativity scene -- Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus in a glass cloche.

While I love setting up a manger scene each Christmas, there's something to be said for keeping it simple. I saw a similar display online (although I can't find it now) and it inspired me to put this humble Holy Family display together.

I call this gorgeous metal and glass bird house a cloche, since it literally serves the same purpose. I bought it over 20 years ago and I've never regretted it. I dress it up for every occasion. While I've never found another one like it, you can purchase something similar for you own simple Nativity scene:

Without having to worry about where the baby Jesus might be in the old Christmas storage box, I simply placed this simple, classic, Holy Family statue into the glass bird house cloche.

The simple white carved statue is stunning.

White bottle brush trees are some of my go-tos at Christmas.

Add some fairy lights around the trees and inside the bird house and you have a simple, yet lovely, Christmas Holy Family display to enjoy throughout the season.

I especially love the trees with the vintage-inspired ornaments.

wooden Christmas tree

And wooden Christmas trees add another element of texture, along with the lambs' ear garland. I have two and I use them year round as well as at Christmas. Their fuzzy whitish leaves look almost like they're covered in a light snow.

I'm a huge fan of using frayed velvet ribbon for Christmas.

For the cloche I used some frayed velvet ribbon from My Texas House in taupe (Wal-Mart). I also bought some in brown.

Finally, I sprinkled the bottom of the cloche with faux snow by adding epsom salts. Epsom salts work well because it glistens like real snow, especially when you add in the fairy lights.

It's simple, yes, but it speaks volumes about the true meaning of the holiday. The focus I was trying to create is clear. As they say, it's the reason for the season.

This is just one example of how to create a mindful Christmas home -- stay tuned for more installments to come!

Well, that's it until next time, friends!
