Porcelain Lady Gets a Face Lift a la Pottery Barn

August 24, 2011

Well, two of my three chickadees went back to school today.  Always bittersweet, no?  I can't believe it will be September next week......the kids are already planning their Halloween costumes!  How about yours?

Today I want to share with you a Before/After project that I'm on the fence about.  I picked up these two Victorian beauties at Goodwill about a year ago.

His and Hers.  And they're b-i-g, 15 inches by 14 inches.  From day one my family made it perfectly clear that they thought these two were, and I quote, "Creepy!"  Well, that was actually the kids talking.  Mr. CBD, well, we won't even go there......

I actually got to thinking that perhaps they had a point, but I was determined to do SOMETHING with them.  I just didn't know what.  So they sat.  And they sat.  And they, well, you get the gist.  Finally I got the itch to actually do something with them.  And I had a little inspiration in my archives from good old Pottery Barn.

I'm not sure what theirs was made of (it's no longer available) but mine is HEAVY.

I started out with a coat of primer, followed by white spray paint.  She looked OK, but nothing special.  So I added a coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, Paris Grey.  Then I sanded her a bit and voila.

I do think she looks better.  I really like how the gold peeks through here and there.  But I'm just not sure I L-O-V-E her, you know?  Thoughts?  Reactions?  Weigh in and tell me.  I can take it.  Really.  (I need to decide whether I want to go ahead with the boyfriend or not. I'm holding off on painting him for now.)

Have a great week and don't forget to share your Club G.W. finds at Tuesday's Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva here.

Finally, if you haven't entered my giveaway, check it out here!  It ends Friday, so don't wait!

What I Bought at Pottery Barn

August 9, 2011

So, you all knew that I couldn't let that $100.00 Pottery Barn Gift Certificate burn a hole in my pocket for very long, now, didn't you?  And of course I had to share today's purchases with you.

They call these "Voluminous Cannisters."  Uh, yeah.  More voluminous than any glass cannister I own, anyway.  I bought the one on the left, and that's considered the "small" one!  Really, it's HUGE in person.  And they had it filled with very real looking red apples (think FALL, y'all) and they had me hooked!  I can't wait to fill it.  (Of course I'll wait to find the filler at some place like Target - on clearance!)

Then I also purchased this very sweet Pocketwatch Clock.

I purchased the small one, in bronze.  It comes on an easel, but you can also hang it if you'd like.  I think I might try it under a cloche or in a decorative birdhouse.  What do you think?

I was torn between so many beautiful things, but as a DIY-er I sometimes I find it hard to justify paying a lot for something I could make myself at home.  Even when it's someone else's money I'm spending!  Do you know what I mean?

Well, I ended up with a small bit of change still in my pocket for another day.  And I'm so grateful to Home Talk for sponsoring Home Stories A 2 Z' s giveaway. Thanks again guys!

Stay tuned later this week for a peek at an awesome place I visited last weekend. (Can you say "American Pickers?")

And there's still time to link up to my Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva Party going on right now here!  Can't wait to see you there!

xoxo

I' m a Copycat, What Are You?

February 16, 2011

Today I wanted to share with you a cool, crafty site that's dedicated to the "Wanna-be's" of the world.  It's called  Copycat Crafts.  I was honored that they featured one of MY copycat crafts ~ the Ballard Designs gilded chalkboard.  {You might remember my post about it.} You can find their feature of it
here.

They spotlight Anthropologie, Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, West Elm, Marimekko and Land of Nod Knock-offs.  See how to make it yourself for less!  I mean, really, what a great resource for those crafty souls out there who could really go to town on some of these featured tutorials.  Just a glimpse.......

DIY Pottery Barn surfboard chalkboards ~  I kid you not, my almost-12-year-old daughter would kill for one of these in her room!

Land of Nod-inspired floor cushions.  So pretty!  I really wish I had found this site when my kids were still little because I love Land of  Nod to pieces!

Okay, so I think you've got the picture.  It's a great place to visit for inspiration ~ I'm headed over there right now to find out about that PB-inspired teen surfboard......

Oh, and how could I forget to mention my upcoming
Do You Toile? Party!
Grab a button from my sidebar {code included, that's how much I love ya} and spread the word!

Then come join the Party here on March 2nd!
I can't WAIT to see what some of you Toile Nuts are cooking up for the party!

Hope you're having a great week!

White Wednesday (and I Don't Mean Snow)

December 14, 2010

Although we HAVE had our first snow, what with being in the Midwest and all.......

As for White Wednesday, I've been eyeing these beauties for a while and thought I'd share them with you.

All photos courtesy of, you guessed it, Pottery Barn.  Not a lot of mystery with me, I confess.

Can't you just feel the softness and the warmth of these?  I've been noticing these "faux" fur throws gaining popularity lately.  Makes me want to curl up by the fire with a good book.

I think these pillows would be just smashing with the throws. Talk about indulgence.

I've always been a sucker for monograms.

I brought home two of these babies from the thrift shop, although they were painted different colors and not just white.  My family thought I was a little bit nuts and said that they were "scary" looking!  Little did they know that I had it in mind to paint them white......if they end up looking like this I think they'll look quite nice.

In my other life I used to be a frame-a-holic.  My tastes have evolved over time, so some of my old frames don't exactly go with our current decor. THIS frame, however, would be quite welcome in our home today!

And as for that snow, we're ready for it.  You have to be if you live out here in this perpetual Winter Wonderland ~  where we have snow on the ground from November through March (and sometimes April!).  Now if I just had one of those scrumptious white fur throws to get me through the winter......maybe it's not too late to add to my Christmas list?  Wherever you are, stay warm.  Enjoy the snow if you have it.  And have a great week.
