I WIll Spend My Heaven Doing Good Upon Earth

May 9, 2011

Wow.  I didn't know she said that.  Saint Therese of Lisieux, France, that is.  Otherwise known as The Little Flower.  I should have known since this is my second charm necklace featuring a vintage Saint Therese medal plus vintage bling.  You can read about her and the first one I made here.

I will spend my heaven doing good upon earth.

Who among us has the foresight and wisdom, not to mention maturity (she was very young when she said this) and saintliness (I know not I!) to be able to say those words?

I will spend my heaven doing good upon earth.

It's like she already knew she'd become a saint.

The back of the medal actually has those words inscribed on it.  I'm loving that about it.

The front of the medal pictures her holding a crucifix while it says Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus.

I will spend my heaven doing good upon earth.

To think she's up there somewhere watching over us.  At least I HOPE she's watching over me.

Pretty amazing, don't you think?

Vintage Rhinestones Galore

March 24, 2011

So who's with me on this one?  My stash of flea market and thrift store vintage jewelry finds includes mucho rhinestones.  (Can you tell I didn't study Spanish?  I studied French ~ and a lot of good that did me!)  Up until recently I had a phobia (for lack of a better word) about taking some of those rhinestones and using them for other things.  Until I had an epiphany and realized that they look SO DAMN GOOD when they're added to OTHER things.  Case in point.

Okay, so maybe you can't really tell what I'm talking about here.  Let's move on to a (somewhat) better photo.

Can you see the bling now?  I salvaged the rhinestones from a broken and very much I've-seen-better-days gold plated necklace with a broken clasp.  The stones seem quite at home on the St. Joseph medal, no?  And the rhinestone dangle came straight from the necklace as well.

Gotta  love the crown charm.  And the patina of the medal.  The back looks like this.

St. Joseph pray for us.  Amen to that.

And to change gears completely here, I want to thank each and every one my followers who has been so loyal and so supportive.  It means more than you know.  And as for you lurkers, I know who you are....and thank you, too.

Next time I'll be delving more into the Easter Egg Hunt Protocol (yes, there's a protocol ~ you weren't informed?)  So stay tuned.

Have a great weekend.

Citrine Charm Necklace and Black Friday Boutique

October 6, 2010

Okay.  I know the name of this blog is CHARM BRACELET DIVA.  But I'm guessing you all have noticed that I'm making quite a lot of n-e-c-k-l-a-c-e-s these days, not bracelets!  I'm still the CBD, believe me, but for some reason I feel compelled to create vintage charm necklaces.  Problem is, I make them and want to wear them.  Put them in my Etsy shop? Nah......maybe another day.  Is anybody with me on this?

Anyway ~ surprise ~ I just finished yet another necklace.  I'm a very Fall Colors sort of person, and that's come out in this necklace.

I'm calling the glass beads citrine since that's the closest color I can compare them to.  Or is it topaz?

You tell me.  Anyway, it feels good to create something rather than just sit and tool on the computer, which is what I've been doing a lot of these days.  Now if I could just get some charm bracelets made in time for my Black Friday Sale I'll be in good shape.

More news to come soon about the Black Friday Sale, or Somewhat Simple's Studio Boutique.  Also, if you haven't yet entered my giveaway do not despair (sigh).  The giveaway ends on October 22nd!

Oh, and am I the only one eating gobs of candy corn?

Time Stands Still Reminiscence Heirloom

September 15, 2010

Last Friday I posted about what's been inspiring me for Inspiration Friday over at Common Ground.  If you read it, you know I shared a Sundance Jewelry necklace entitled Trinket Watch Necklace.   Here it is.

Sorry, but that's the clearest I can manage to get the picture.  Anyway, I'd been wondering for a while (oh, about a year or so!) what I could do with an old watch of my mom's.  She passed away when I was in my twenties so anything of hers is pretty special to me.  When I thought about it recently, I realized why I love this necklace so much.  The watch face reminded me of one of my mom's old watches that were just sitting in my jewelry box.

Once the light bulb went off, I couldn't wait to start creating.  I really do love it.

Mom's old watch {plus} a vintage Saint (Padre) Pio medal {plus} a flea market rhinestone ball all add up to a smashing combination.  Especially coupled with the two-part chain ~ part rosary bead, part gunmetal.  And I always use antique brass findings and toggle clasps whenever I can.

I guess it's just another example of vintage blessings ~ my favorite kind.

Key to My Heart Charm Necklace

March 19, 2010

Well, hellooooooooo Spring!  NOT!:(  Today was so gorgeous (mid-60's) that I even got the hubby to take some photos of my jewelry outside.  Alas, it's supposed to snow, yes SNOW, tomorrow and Sunday.  Hopefully only 1-2 inches but who needs it, you know?  I'm just sayin'

My latest charm necklace is the Key to My Heart charm necklace.  It's a 24" multi-tiered chain necklace, made of vintage gold-plated chain, antique brass chain, a pewter finish toggle and 3 charms.  The two antique brass charms are a heart and a key.  Last but not least is the bead charm I made out of 3 amber beads and a vintage black oblong bead.   The charms look like this:

I'm lovin' it!  Now it's time to put it in my Etsy shop.  My recent inventory has been somewhat depleted so I'm trying to madly fill it back up (to all of, like, 10 items).  Anyway, not enough time in the day.  Right now it's time to spend time with the kiddos before bed.  Ciao.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

March 11, 2010

I think my hankering for Spring nudged me along to make this two-tiered silver charm necklace.  Birds chirping, people falling in love (or more in LoVe!) and lighter clothes that will show off this style of necklace beautifully ~ a sleeveless v-neck ruffle T, perhaps?

I used a heart LocKeT (yes, I'm very crazy about lockets these days), a swallow-like bird in flight, a bird cage and a pendant bearing the word Trust.  They're hanging from a 28-inch two-tiered silver chain.  Chains, actually ~ I used two different textured chains to make it interesting.  As per my fave, I used a silver toggle clasp.

Anyone else itching for Spring?  The daffodils are almost bloomin' here in the midwest and we're REAL happy about that :)  Our girls are going to be in the Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade this weekend ~ Irish dancers and all that~ so we hope it doesn't rain ! Erin go bragh!

Crazy Love Silk Ribbon Charm Necklace

March 2, 2010

I call this one "Crazy Love" since it's an eclectic mix, chock full of charms and beads. Not sure how I feel about it, though ~ perhaps I'm being too prissy?  I've used my precious pearls and antique brass charms ~ now THEY make me happy!

I used silk dupioni ribbon and an antique brass chain with a hook and ball clasp.  There are 11 charms and beads in all, as per the tutorial from www.ornamentea.com I mentioned in my last post.  Too much or just right?  Let me know what you think!

I forgot to mention that Superhubby gave me Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for my birthday!  Now I can actually create the blog button of my dreams!  Seriously, I've been dreaming about it.  Queer, I know.  But I AM excited to try it out.

Although it seems like there's not enough time in the day........especially when your 6 year old son wakes you up at 6:20 a.m. and says, "Mommy, I dropped the whole roll of toilet paper in the toilet!"  To his credit, he actually grabbed it right quickly and averted an early morning disaster in our house.  Gotta thank someone for THAT:)
