I WIll Spend My Heaven Doing Good Upon Earth

Wow.  I didn't know she said that.  Saint Therese of Lisieux, France, that is.  Otherwise known as The Little Flower.  I should have known since this is my second charm necklace featuring a vintage Saint Therese medal plus vintage bling.  You can read about her and the first one I made here.


I will spend my heaven doing good upon earth. 

Who among us has the foresight and wisdom, not to mention maturity (she was very young when she said this) and saintliness (I know not I!) to be able to say those words?

It's like she already knew she'd become a saint. 



The back of the medal actually has those words inscribed on it.  I'm loving that about it.


The front of the medal pictures her holding a crucifix while it says Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus.

 To think she's up there somewhere watching over us.  At least I HOPE she's watching over me.

France Meets Chicago

What an unlikely couple.  France and Chicago.  But here they are.

This necklace is another one from my line of vintage medals mixed with other flea market finds (and some contemporary elements as well).  I bought the medal in a thrift shop, not knowing till I got home that it says something on the back.  It says "National Shrine of St. Jude, Chicago Illinois."  Then it says "Claretian Fathers."  Hhmmm.......pretty neat, I thought.  I mean, who knew?  I live in the midwest and had no idea that Chicago was the proud home of the National Shrine of St. Jude.  Some days lately I feel like maybe I should go there!  (St. Jude is the patron saint of lost causes!)

Okay, so there's the Chicago part.

What about the France part?

Well, I also picked up a vintage rosary at the same thrift store ~  a bit worn, just the way I like it!  And this amazing piece had a crucifix encased in a silverplate mold that says "Lourdes" on the back.  Lourdes!  Now we're talking France!  I was really thrilled to discover it.

So, I gingerly removed some of the r-e-a-l-l-y worn white beads (now almost clear) from the rosary and incorporated them into this necklace.  How blessed is that?
       





There's also vintage bling as well (of course).  And bird charms always make me happy, somehow.

France and Chicago.  I'm glad they met.

On another note, I can't believe that I've almost reached 400 (squeal!) Dear Diva Followers.  You guys have been awesome and I appreciate each and every one of you (and your comments and/or stalking).

So stay with me.  I promise to surprise you.

You're awesome.  No, really, you ARE.

St. Therese and Remembering the Romance

I received a lovely note from someone named Eva back in December regarding my vintage St. Therese of Lisieux necklace.  She said she found it on Etsy while researching items for a Treasury she was putting together.  I'm top row, second one in from the right.


Here's a closer look.




You can find this vintage treasure in my Etsy shop here, while my blog post about it is here.  So it seems this kind soul, Eva, chose to create an entire Etsy Treasury filled with St. Therese  ~ and my necklace was featured, along with other artisits' renderings of the Little Flower, as she's also known to some.  Stop by and visit the Treasury and check out some of the beautiful works of art.  I am always amazed by these people who take the time to create a Treasury in order to spotlight their favorite items on Etsy.  You should stop by and visit Eva's Etsy shop as well, Prayers in Purple, here.

I've figured out how to do a screen grab of the Treasury pages, but not how to have it link back to the actual page.  Sorry, that's why I've given you the link above.  If anyone has any tips on this, feel free to comment and let me know, please!

Surprisingly enough, I also just found out that another one of my treasures was placed in an Etsy Treasury entitled "Remembering the Romance."  I'm second row, fourth picture to the right.

My Copper Penny and Turquoise Charm Necklace was featured, along with many other beautiful romantic works of art.  The treasury was created by Terrastreasures1.  Here's a closer look at the charm necklace.

Belle Armoire Jewelry and Vintage Blessings

Okay, I LoVe this magazine.  I love the cover.  I love the photos.  I love the inspiration.  I have SO needed to create these past few days and this baby really motivated me to get the ball rolling.  One of my favorite jewelry artist's work was featured ~ Deryn Mentock.

I really wanted to show a picture here of the beautiful treasure she created that inspired me to make my most recent necklace.  BUT I CAN'T FIND ANY PICTURES OF IT ON LINE!  Suffice it to say that it's on page 81 of Belle Armoire Jewelry Autumn 2010.  You can get the magazine from Stampington.com or at Michael's or Jo-Ann's.  It is SO worth the cost!  (Thank you Mr. CBD for buying me the subscription!)  Seriously, run out and buy it NOW!

I feel funny showing my necklace without a picture of hers (WaaAaayyyy better than mine, of course.) Okay, here's mine.




I also wish my photo-taking skills were a bit more polished (I'm getting there, s-l-o-w-l-y) because I really feel the necklace is nicer than it looks here, but oh well.  I created it with a vintage rosary for starters.  I added a cross I already had, a vintage Mary Katherine Kasper medal and a vintage rhinestone bauble.  The glass beads sparkle beautifully, and they're hugged by vintage antique brass  spacers.  It's finished off with a toggle clasp.

I love creating with vintage religious medals and mementos.  I'm Catholic and rosaries have always had a special place in my heart.  When I'm wearing the necklace I feel like there are constant blessings being showered down upon me.
