Changing out your home decor with the seasons doesn't have to be expensive or difficult. I recently shared some of this year's farmhouse living room fall decor, and today I'd like to share how I decorated our DIY whitewashed farmhouse shelves for the fall season as well.

Dried Hydrangea Decor/Fall Decorating: Junk Visionaries October Challenge

October 5, 2015

Today I'm sharing one way I use dried hydrangeas from the garden as fall floral decor.

Are you a junk visionary? I'm so excited to be a part of the Junk Visionaries group. A few talented blogging friends and I get together once a month and post great repurposed stuff relating to a theme. The theme for October is nature. So I thought and thought and thought. How can I bring nature into a repurposing project?

Pottery Barn Faux Fur Score

August 4, 2014

I'm just as perplexed as the next person when I walk into a Michael's or a Hobby Lobby and see pumpkins and Christmas decorations on the shelves in July. You think I'd be used to it by now, but it still shocks me a little each year when it happens. How about you?

I don't think this qualifies as being quite as egregious as all THAT, but I did recently pick up something at Goodwill that has me itching for fall. It just happens to be one of my favorite home decor items: a pillow cover. But not just ANY pillow cover.

A Pottery Barn pillow cover.

The (faux) fur kind.

Here's their $39.50 version (and that's the cost without the pillow).

Faux Fur Pillow Cover - Caramel Ombre

Here's a screenshot of the same sale page online.

And here's my $2.99 version (pre-pillow insert).

I'll admit that my photo skills are nowhere near as good as Pottery Barn's.
But I can say that in person it looks really soft, fluffy and brand new.
And while I couldn't believe my good luck in finding it tucked away amongst all the other Goodwill textiles for sale,

I still felt somewhat funny about bringing it home on a hot July day.

But after I filled it with an Ikea down pillow insert I already had (crazy inexpensive), I no longer felt funny at all.

The kids are already fighting over it (not to mention the blankets).

What do you think? A match made in heaven or what?

Not to rush the seasons or anything,
but it almost makes me pine for a nice, cozy fire
and a cup of Earl Grey.

(Sorry that the color's a little off. I just can't seem to get a decent picture in this room. Ever.)

Oh, and one more confession. The other night I found myself lighting a candle.

But not just any candle.

The flavor was Salted Caramel. And to me, that's a quintessentially fall flavor for sure.

Uh oh.

Maybe I do have more in common with those craft stores than I thought.

Fall.

Bring it on.

Easy Fall Floral Arrangement

September 1, 2012

Hello!  Are you ready for fall?  I am, and in a big way!  It's my absolute favorite time of the year, hands down.  Maybe I'm way too early a bit premature here but I couldn't help sharing this beautiful fall bouquet I picked up yesterday.  I just plopped it into one of my huge blue-tinted Ball/Mason jars that cost me all of $1.99 at Goodwill.  It didn't have the lid, but then I knew I'd be using it for a vase and wouldn't need the lid anyway.  Add a touch of burlap and you're good to go!

I experimented with effects in PicMonkey for this one.

Roses and alstroemeria.  I love the combination.

Life's been a bit bumpy these past few weeks so I apologize for not being around quite as much as as usual.  I have been thinking about you all, though!  My creative mojo definitely took a turn for the worse recently, but I'm hoping to get it back soon.  I mean, what good is fall weather if you can't take advantage of the cooler temperatures and start some painting projects in the garage?  Many ideas swirling, now just have to hit the ground running.  I hope you'll stick around.

I also hope you enjoyed reading about my
