Fall is my favorite time of year. And today I'm sharing some of my latest traditional and/or vintage fall decor ideas that I've implemented in my own home this year.

DIY Rustic Twig Vase
July 25, 2016
Hello and welcome back! I know today's DIY project has somewhat of an autumn feel to it, but I was recently inspired to create it so I thought I'd share. I'm happy to report that my simple DIY rustic twig vase is both inexpensive and easy to put together in no time. So let's get started shall we?
How I Made No-Sew Window Valances for Less Than $4.00
February 16, 2016
It all started with a couple of lamp shades. Target's clearance section was calling out to me.... and of course I had to follow the call. Little did I know when I bought two turquoise lamp shades that day that I was about to change our every day decor for the first time in almost 12 years. I have always played it pretty safe both color and style-wise, tending to go with muted tones and a traditional farmhouse style. But this time I guess I was ready for a change, and, well, I just fell in love with the color.
Dried Hydrangea Decor/Fall Decorating: Junk Visionaries October Challenge
October 5, 2015
Today I'm sharing one way I use dried hydrangeas from the garden as fall floral decor.
Are you a junk visionary? I'm so excited to be a part of the Junk Visionaries group. A few talented blogging friends and I get together once a month and post great repurposed stuff relating to a theme. The theme for October is nature. So I thought and thought and thought. How can I bring nature into a repurposing project?
Transform Your Vintage Flour Sack Into A No-Sew Pillow Cover
September 11, 2014
I love pillows. I love grain sacks and flour sacks.Match made in heaven, right? Perhaps you remember when I made a faux grainsack pillow with a Target dish towel a few years ago. I still love it and use it every day on the family room couch. But there's always room for one more grain or flour sack pillow, now isn't there?
Decorating with Vintage Trophies
August 25, 2014
I love vintage trophies. I love their patina. I love their shapes. I love their engravings. I don't love their price tags. So I don't actually own any vintage trophies. But I do have a vintage champagne bucket that that serves as a great substitute.
Decorating with Artichokes
June 26, 2014
I have to be honest right off the bat and say that I've never even eaten an artichoke.
Not to mention the fact that I think the word artichoke is one pretty weird word.
That being said, I DO like how artichokes look when used for home décor and entertaining.
So much so that I recently created a Pinterest board dedicated to artichoke decorating! But rather than make you go over there to see my pins (although you're always welcome!) I thought I'd share a few of them right here.
This one is a classic example of fresh artichokes used in place of flowers for a table centerpiece.
{I'm not sure how long they last in water, though. Anyone have any experience with this?}

I've wanted to get one of these drink dispensers for a long time.

I think the artichoke is a fabulous table decoration, especially in the fall. I've always wanted to use them on Thanksgiving. Here they're used in a simple, but pretty, table setting.

Below is one more example of a way to use artichokes at each place setting. You could even stick a place card into each one for a more personal touch. I also think they'd look fabulous running all the way down the center of the table, each one filled with flowers! Or maybe tea lights. Hhmm, I think I'm onto something.....it appears that the possibilities are endless!
Lana Austin's European Vintage
The idea for this post came about after I scored a white porcelain pitcher from
Goodwill for $2.99. Here she is.

Isn't she lovely?
Here she is up close. Just a few small worn spots. But that's how I like them, chippy and loved!
It says "Made in Italy" on the bottom, which I think just adds to its value.

In addition to the pitcher I already had some silk artichokes displayed in my repurposed and French-i-fied tool box. You can see how I added the French graphics to the toolbox here.
I really think the artichokes are perfect for it.
Here they are together.
You knew I couldn't help myself from talking about my hydrangeas, didn't you?
I can't believe how early they're blooming this year.
Not to mention how plentiful the blooms are.

Cue angelic chorus here.
Yes, I'm excited at the prospect of a summer full of hydrangeas.
What gets you excited about summer?
Do you use artichokes

Fall Vignette
October 7, 2013
Not much going on here these days since I haven't really been decorating for the season. It's unusual for me, but home schooling is taking up most of my time right now. I did want to share a little vignette with you, though, and (believe it or not) some more of those amazing hydrangeas that just keep on giving.
I just liked the light streaming in here so I took a picture. This is our family room, and it's usually impossible to get a good picture due to inadequate lighting. So I jump at the chance to take a picture in here anytime I can.
I went outside today and checked on the hydrangea bushes, more as an afterthought than anything else, since by my recollection they should be pretty much done blooming by now. But no.
I cut a couple bright pink ones and threw them in one of my vintage blue Mason jars. There are still a few new blooms out there that I'll be keeping an eye on. And of course I had to cut the drying ones, too.
I've been so blessed with blooms this year, it practically makes me giddy every time I discover more despite the lateness of the season. I'm not complaining, of course.
And here is a beautiful fall bouquet courtesy of Mr. CBD, "just because." He knows that fall is my favorite time of year. Thanks, babe!
Well, I've got a few full days of homeschooling ahead of me and then a 4-day Fall Break weekend coming up. Hoping to see some pretty leaves in Michigan. If I capture any I'll be sure to post them on Facebook and Instagram. Do you follow? I'd love it if you would! See sidebar for details.
Have a great week, friends!

Farmhouse Vintage Cake Carrier and Ironstone Cow Milk Pitcher
July 21, 2013
Isn't she beautiful? She was a recent Goodwill score for $3.99. I can't get over my luck. As soon as I brought her home I just had to use her in a kitchen vignette.
Here she is sitting on my stove, along with my ironstone cow milk pitcher ($1.99 Goodwill find) and my vintage ironstone kitchen canisters (also Goodwill finds from a few years ago). I threw in a large blue vintage mason jar and some hydrangeas that are starting to dry (yay!).
I have to admit my family didn't quite feel my excitement about the whole thing. That is, until I used it for this.

Now they're just as happy as I am {insert smiles here}.
Isn't she beautiful? The bottom plate is made of very heavy, ornate, leaded glass. I just love her. I did a little research and found similar vintage cake carriers going for $38.00 on ebay.
I also love how you can see the reflection of the hydrangeas in the lid. The white clay tag (with a bee on it) that's hanging on the vintage ball jar is one that I made myself.
If you're interested, you can see my easy, DIY clay tag tutorial here.
I was also thrilled with my ironstone cow milk pitcher. Isn't he cute?
In all honesty I have to say that I already enjoy baking, but this beauty inspires me to bake even more!
Brownies, anyone?
Keep cool and have a great week!
Xoxo

Displaying Hydrangeas in Vintage Milk Bottles with Wire Crate
July 13, 2013
Today I'm sharing how to display hydrangeas in vintage milk bottles.
I just wanted to share another peak at my large leaf hydrangeas, both pink AND white this time, as well as my vintage milk bottles and wire carrying crate. It's a super easy flower arranging idea that works beautifully, especially in summer. Take a look.
