I've been in love with bee skeps for as long as I can remember. But store bought bee skeps are not cheap. So I did a little research on DIY bee skeps and came up with my own version that you can make for less.

 

Any time I can bring something home from a thrift store and rejuvenate it I am one happy camper. And today I'm sharing one of those success stories. I managed to transform an ugly duckling thrift store lidded basket into a true farmhouse decor find -- for very little money and very little time. So if that sounds good to you, read on. 

Has your decorating style changed over the years? Mine sure has. There was a time when I was partial to a mix of traditional and country, but today that's not the case. There's nothing wrong with change, but for the fact that you're left with home decor items, furniture and accessories you no longer need or want. In an effort to recycle, I do try to use some of these pieces over again in different ways, or in different rooms, etc. And while some can be used "as is" I find that sometimes a little DIY magic is necessary for that item to remain useful in light of my style preference of the day.

Ever since our dining room remodel was finished (can I get a "hallelujah!"?) I've been practically paralyzed over how to actually decorate the room. Other than knowing I want to decorate it along the same lines as my French farmhouse living room, I've toyed with various ideas. While still somewhat in the planning stages, there are some real concrete changes that have been made for the better. And I have some new decor to share as well!

I've been eyeing some nesting wood crates online for quite some time, having seen them offered by at least a few different online retailers. Welcome, friends! Come right in and look around -- it's my newly renovated, finally-decorated-for-Christmas dining room! Many of you probably remember when we were in the throes of the construction mess -- ugh, right? Well, those days are now just a memory and I'm moving forward with the fun job of holiday decorating. This year my motto has been "less is more" and I'm loving it. Let's look around, shall we?

I'm a very impatient person. Which is exactly why I'm jumping the gun and showing you some sneak peek "after" pictures of our new dining room without showing you the "before" or "during" pictures. There will be a full reveal in the future, but that won't happen until after I have actually decorated the room. Right now I just want to share my excitement over the fact that it's finally finished after waiting since the end of April for it to be done.

I recently shared with you one of my all-time favorite vintage finds -- a thrifted farmhouse wooden trug. After that, I heard from many of you who confessed that you'd never even heard of a trug before. And it got me thinking. So I decided to put together my own little unofficial "Trug Guide," if you will, for the uninitiated. Hopefully even those of you who have heard of trugs before will learn something new.

It all started with a couple of lamp shades. Target's clearance section was calling out to me.... and of course I had to follow the call. Little did I know when I bought two turquoise lamp shades that day that I was about to change our every day decor for the first time in almost 12 years. I have always played it pretty safe both color and style-wise, tending to go with muted tones and a traditional farmhouse style. But this time I guess I was ready for a change, and, well, I just fell in love with the color.

I always jump at the chance to decorate with elements from nature whenever I can. So when I discovered some lovely berried branches growing in our back yard I just had to bring some in for me and my family to enjoy.
