How To Style A Vintage Farmhouse Ladder

March 12, 2019

Today I'm going to share how to style a vintage farmhouse ladder.

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of old ladders. I've written about them before. There was the time I put an old, salvaged ladder in our bathroom to use as storage, and another time I hung our Christmas stockings on it. There was also the flea market ladder I used to decorate my modern farmhouse living room. It's that same ladder I'm going to talk about today, only this time it's been decked out in a very different way. This time I've chosen to hang a large inspirational canvas print and some rustic farmhouse paintings on it to give this ladder its new, uniquely stylish look.

Saint Teresa of Avila quote May today there be peace within canvas print

It all started with this inspirational canvas print. It contains one of my all-time favorite quotes, and I knew I needed to find a special place to display it. (I'll talk about the actual quote at the end of the post.)

While still debating where to display the canvas, I happily stumbled upon two rustic farmhouse paintings that I thought would be just perfect for my ever-evolving modern farmhouse aesthetic. The first just happened to be of an old country church. Ironically, I'd been looking at church paintings for a while but didn't like the prices I was finding.

The second painting happened to be of an old barn. Um, old churches and old barns? Yes! I was feeling quite lucky to have found them. They're approximately 12" x 12", painted on what appears to be pallet wood! But the best part? They're from Dollar General and cost only $7.00 each.

I absolutely love the vintage chippiness of this painting.

The knots in the wood make it that much more beautiful to me.

I've displayed the barn painting with a tobacco basket "frame" and a boxwood wreath thrown in for good measure.

The raw rustic wood frame and weathered-looking rope of the hanging canvas just adds to the whole vintage-like appearance.

And my old stand-by ladder does a great job as a unique, rustic easel. What do you think?

As for the quote, I feel like I should point out that it was actually said by Saint Teresa of Avila, Spain and not Saint Therese of Lisieaux, France. For some reason I always see the quote attributed to the wrong saint. Despite this faux pas I still love the canvas for its rugged farmhouse aesthetic, simple typography and joyful reminder that each day provides us with a new start for self-actualization.

Well, that's it until next time, friends!

Hi Kathy,
I love all your pretties on your ladder for decoration. The St. Therese saying is beautiful. Love that very much. Hope you are enjoying our Spring like temps. Would like to see a little more sunshine. I will take the warmer temps.
Hugs,
Kris

Love how you styled the ladder; those pictures are perfect farmhouse vibes! My daughter hung one horizontally over her couch and put small framed pictures in it! Hope the hip recovery is coming along well!
