Club G.W. {Goodwill} No. 19, Features and the Goodwill Happy Dance

November 7, 2011

I've been holding off sharing one of my MOST FAVORITE CLUB G.W. FINDS thus far, what with the floor remodel chaos going on in my house lately.  But now I'm ready to share!  Warning:  If you're the jealous type you might just hate envy me for this!

I have my Chickadee #1 to thank for spying this little beauty as soon as we walked into one of my favorite Club G.W.'s. I have to say that I saw it and thought to myself that it must be for customers to sit on because it looked brand new and probably not for sale. (Does that ever really happen at Goodwill? What was I thinking?)
But she made me proud and pounced on that baby like a real thrifter (she had a good teacher!).  Once I saw the $4.99 price tag I was ecstatic. I brought it up to the register and asked them to hold it for me while I shopped. They said I had better pay for it then and there because they couldn't hold it for me if someone else came up and wanted it! Well that was a no-brainer. We paid and left, with me feeling almost like I was stealing something! (I'm not kidding.)

I swear, pillows are the most versatile accessory!  Remember these?

And I love to incorporate my grainsacks wherever I can!

(Has anyone noticed the FLOOR?  SShhhhhh, I'll show more in a later post!)

In case you've been living under a rock never seen these types of chairs before, they're called Parsons chairs and they're really expensive (by my standards).  Take a look.

$4.99 indeed.  Some people might only use them as dining room chairs, but I think they can go just about anywhere.  I think they work well especially in corners. Or hallways. Or foyers. Of course it would have been great to find more than one, but I've gotta have faith that there are other ones out there somewhere just waiting for me to find them!

Okay then, on to the Features from last week's Club G.W.  We have some old and some new faces.  Thanks for sharing the love and placing my link on your blog post, that's really how others find me!  I'm grateful for all of your participation and support!

Melissa @ Shabby Love
Now this is what I call Thrifty Chic.  She used an old crib mattress spring as a memo/inspiration board.   I have wanted to do this for a while but was afraid Mr. CBD would think I was crazy!  I also wanted to "rustify" it in some way first....any ideas?

Checkers, anyone?  This table went from ho-hum thrift store table to quite a masterpiece, wouldn't you say?  And the best part?  It only cost $5.00.

Cheryl @ Artsy Fartsy (Love that name!)
This thrifty old $2.00 suitcase was craftily turned into a vintage travel trunk!

Old, dark and outdated hutch (you know the kind, relegated to your garage) updated with a splash of white and new hardware.  Love it.

Thanks again, ladies!  Now grab a Featured button and wear it proudly!

Club G.W. No. 13 and TAR-JAY Grainsacks?

September 19, 2011

I have to admit that I've become enamored with all things French, especially French grainsacks.  I look for them on Etsy and Ebay, at flea markets and barn sales.  Gotta be honest here ~ I haven't found a French grainsack for less than $90+ dollars.  A little out of my league, to say the least.  Enter Target.

Recently I've seen this Target dish towel all over blogland, but I have to say that I FOUND IT FIRST PEOPLE, I SWEAR!  Seriously, I bought mine over a month ago (that's early August, people) knowing that I'd stumbled upon pure gold as soon as I saw them.  I bought two at $3.99 each.  My only regret is that I didn't buy more!  They seem to be sold out all over.  (H-E-L-L-O, of course they're sold out!)

I knew from the get-go I wanted to make pillows.  So I measured the towels and then went searching for some pillow inserts.  Lucky for me, I already had two neglected pillows that were perfect for the job!

I, of course, used Stitch Witchery, as I did in my monogram flour sack towel pillow tutorial here.

Stitch witchery is your friend, I always say!

I also picked up some precut Duck fabric at Wal-Mart (did you know they're selling fabric again?) to use as the back side of the pillow.

It was a nice match color-wise, and I think it worked out really well.  And now, the piece de resistance.

I'm really loving it, and plan on making another one soon.  And who knows?  Ten more followers and there might just be a Target French grainsack pillow in your future! I smell a giveaway!

Hope you liked the pillow, and maybe ~ just maybe~ you'll have some luck finding these towels at a Target store near you.  Bonne Chance!

And now on to last week's features and Club G.W. No. 13.

Thanks to all who joined in last week.  Please know that I really do try to get back and comment on each and every blog.  Unfortunately, I can't comment on your blog if your comments are not set up to be in a separate pop-up window (as opposed to embedded below the post).  I don't believe I'm the only one with this Blogger problem, although I'm not sure why....you can easily change the settings through your Blogger dashboard page if you so desire.

Okay, lots of great stuff last week, but here's a few finds that I'd like to share with you today.

Craigslist and 2 bins of broken china later.....check this out over @ My Trinkets

Betsy @ My Salvaged Treasures really scored big on some nifty thrifty finds!  Love these wooden rulers, don't you?

And go check out some Longaberger love over @ Grammy GoodwillDid she say $2.95?

Well, ladies, go on and grab yourself a "Charm Bracelet Diva Featured Me!" button from my top right sidebar.  Then please join in Party No. 13 below!  You know the drill:

Tuesday's Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva No.2

July 4, 2011

Well, the first Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva Party is a thing of the past.  Thanks to all who participated!  The party wasn't large, but it WAS chock full of them Goodwill finds!

Before we start the next party I thought I'd showcase a few entries from Party No.1.......I wish I could mention each one as they were all fantastic examples of thrifting at it's finest!

First off is this awesome redesign from Rosemary at Villabarnes. You've got to see her blog to believe her talent!  This chair was SO rescued (you've gotta see it's BEFORE pic) and the linen fabric with blue ticking is one of my all-time favorites!

This monogrammed picnic basket was a great find by Madison of Madison Makes.  She thinks
she might be addicted to storage solutions....I think she has a great eye for fabulous finds.  I can think of a hundred uses for this basket in my house right now!  Love the basket, and just love how her finds  are called "car boot loot" on her side of the pond!  (Maybe I should call this the Car Boot Loot Party? lol)

Vanna at Delusions of Grandeur takes the cake for both volume and diversity of flea market finds.  You have to stop over there and see them all to believe it!  She snagged a ton of stuff including an inkwell (apparently a wildly amazing snag, check it out), a barometer, a funky Japanese lamp from Goodwill (my favorite!) and much more.

Finally, Kim over at Cheap Chic Home shared an amzing Club. G.W. find that anybody would have turned the car around for!  You did good, Kim!

If you made it into this week's features as a Club G.W. Diva, go on and grab a Featured Button, at the top of my right sidebar!

Now on to my own Club G.W. find and re-do for this week.

I have to admit that I thought this mirror was hideous when I first saw it (with potential, of course) but now I'm not so sure....but I guess that ship has sailed since it's been transformed!

Chickadee number one found it during our weekly visit to the local Club G.W.

Once I got it home and inspected it I realized that the black border around the mirror wasn't black paint, it was ~ wait for it ~ velvet.  Yes, I said velvet.  Pretty odd, I know.  Lucky for me it was starting to peel off in one corner so I gently started to peel it all back. I was half afraid that it would be cardboard or something underneath but it was bare wood.  Perfect for painting over!

And paint over it I did.

One coat of primer and two coats of Martha Stewart White followed by a bit of sandpaper distressing.  I was a happy camper.

It's for our recently revamped bathroom (post-septic system back-up and flood, ugh I know) and I'm excited that we'll be hanging it this weekend.  I can't wait to show you it in all its glory once the rest of the bathroom decor overhaul is finished.  For now I'm satisfied with enjoying the beauty of our wildflowers.

Okay so now on to the real McCoy, YOUR link-ups!  Show us your thrifty finds and re-dos and let's see what makes your heart go pitter-patter!

Tuesday's Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva Party

June 27, 2011

Welcome to the first ever Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva Party!

For those of you who are new
~ and not in the know ~
Club G.W. stands for Club Goodwill!

Before we get the party started I thought I'd share with you a recent Mr. Thrifty find.  Yes, that's the name of the store, Mr. Thrifty.  (I kind of like it!)  Anyway, as soon as I walked in I knew I wanted this chair.

It's a vintage elementary school chair.  That's right.  And I love it!

I think what I love the most is the sea foam green  paint on the metal back supports and legs.

Not to mention the rust. :)

I was going to use black paint, but then realized I had something else that was much better.

And voila.

So why did I stencil on No 5?  Don't ask me why.

I just know that I love it!

Now let's take a peek at the Rules and get this party started!

MY "JERSEY SHORE" and Club G.W.Party Announcement!

June 20, 2011

No, I'm not talking about that T.V. show (which I've never watched, by the way).  I'm talking about going home to family, friends and a week's vacation that your kids will carry with them for an entire year.  Yes, my husband is from the Jersey shore.  Pretty close to the place they shoot that show, even.  And I spent most of my childhood summers at the Jersey shore with my family, on the beach and the boardwalk.  So what IS my Jersey Shore?  Quite a bit different, I'm afraid, than that other Jersey Shore.

There you have it.  Always my favorite photo, the kids from the back, walking together.  It was a nice respite from the everyday that is life.  But we're home now, and it's time for the much-awaited Club G.W. party announcement!

I'm taking the plunge and hope that you'll take it with me.

The first official
Club G.W.
with
Charm Bracelet Diva
P-A-R-T-Y
begins next Tuesday
June 28th.

That should give you a week to get ready and show us what you got:
your recent finds from your favorite haunts
be it Goodwill, thrift stores, flea markets, estate sales, barn sales,
you name it.
Anything that made your heart go pitter-patter so loudly that you just had to have it.
And if you repurposed it, all the better!

Hope to see you there!

xoxo
