5 Things to Buy at Thrift Stores: A Thrifting Starter Guide

June 14, 2025

Thrift stores* are great places to buy so many things! There's really no downside in my opinion -- you save money, help save the planet, get something unique and possibly one-of-a-kind AND you get to have the thrill of the hunt (perhaps my favorite upside)!

*In favor of transparency, "thrifting" in my world consists of shopping not only at thrift stores, but also estate sales, barn sales, consignment shops, antique malls, etc. So join me as I share my thrifting starter guide based on years of serious thrifting, where I reveal my 5 most favorite things to buy at "thrift stores" -- and why they're my favorites!

Club G.W No. 12 and Retro Home Decor Linens Giveaway Reminder

September 12, 2011

Well, I'm sorry to say that due to such a low turnout last week and the fact that I've been crazed with non-blog-related things these past few days, I'm going to have to skip Features and move right on to the party!  I do hope we get a bigger turnout this week, friends.  I know you want to share your thrifty finds and re-dos!  Tell the world how a certain major score at a flea market, yard sale, Goodwill or WHEREVER  made your heart go pitter-patter!  I'm looking forward to it, ladies, so don't disappoint me this week!  Here's the rules:

Link up your thrifty finds, and your thrifty find re-dos.

Please link back to your post and not to your blog's main URL.

Please mention the party somewhere in your post or place the party button on your sidebar.  That way others can find out where the party is and join in the fun!

I'd love for you to become a follower so you don't miss the next party!

And be sure to visit the other party guests!  (It's the right thing to do, y'all!)

Can't wait to see what you've got this week!

And don't forget to enter my Maynard's Mousetrap retro home decor linens giveaway here!  It's a low turnout ladies so be sure to enter!

Oh yeah, and I'm on Facebook now (Shocker, I know!)  Show me some Facebook love (Or should I say "Like"??)  Thanks!

Tuesday's Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva Party

June 27, 2011

Welcome to the first ever Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva Party!

For those of you who are new
~ and not in the know ~
Club G.W. stands for Club Goodwill!

Before we get the party started I thought I'd share with you a recent Mr. Thrifty find.  Yes, that's the name of the store, Mr. Thrifty.  (I kind of like it!)  Anyway, as soon as I walked in I knew I wanted this chair.

It's a vintage elementary school chair.  That's right.  And I love it!

I think what I love the most is the sea foam green  paint on the metal back supports and legs.

Not to mention the rust. :)

I was going to use black paint, but then realized I had something else that was much better.

And voila.

So why did I stencil on No 5?  Don't ask me why.

I just know that I love it!

Now let's take a peek at the Rules and get this party started!

Party Rules:

Link up any post, past or present, related to any Goodwill, thrift store, flea market, estate sale, barn sale, YOU NAME IT, find you would like to share. This includes any posts featuring thrifty find re-dos!

Be sure to link your thumbnail back to your original post’s URL and not just to your blog’s main address. (If you don't do this InLinkz will redirect you to correct it.)

Please either post the party’s button (grab it from my top right side bar) OR link back to the party somewhere in your post.

I WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO BECOME A FOLLOWER
but it's not mandatory.

And try to visit other party guests, that’s what this is all about!

Enough of the rules, let's get this party started!

(NOTE:  In order to give everyone enough time to participate, I've left the party open through the 4th of July holiday weekend.  Then I'll post my favorites before next Tuesday's party!)

*****Please space down a bit for the linky!*****

Homemaker on a Dime

Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva

June 1, 2011

I love thrift stores of all kinds, and Goodwill has been a real friend to me these past few months.  Too good a friend, if you ask Mr. CBD!  But the merchandise, and the PRICE, is always right!  I know so many of you know exactly what I mean.  But it doesn't have to be a Goodwill store.  It can be any thrift or antique shop you love to frequent, however big or small.

It's that favorite flea market that only comes around when it comes around.

{Sorry, I can't find my source for this!}
R-E-A-L-L-Y wish I could go to this one!

It's that place you know you can go and always find something that makes your heart go pitter-patter....

Whether it's a vintage home decor item

or textile,

or jewelry,

or junky furniture that you just can't help dragging home for repurposing/refinishing

it's all good.

Spend a little, get a lot back.

I've been so inspired by so many bloggers out there who know what I'm talking about and live it every day.

It's our club....Club G.W.

I've thought about doing this for a while, only I can't help but hear the old "What if no one comes to my party?" whisper in my ear!

After realizing that I wouldn't know until I tried, I mentioned my Club G.W. idea to some faithful friends and they all L-O-V-E-D the idea!

So what do you say we get together about once a week and hash over our amazing scores from those favorite haunts?  It can be as simple as a picture of what we've bought, or as involved as a Before and After post (they're my favorite!).  I'd love for you to have a place to come and share your pitter-patters.......stay tuned for details!

DIY Vintage Easter Cloche

April 21, 2011

Today I thought I'd share with you a peek at my most recent project.  Now for those of you who don't know me, I looooove cloches.  Problem is, whenever I find them in my favorite Club G.W., there's never any bottom part to them, i.e., bowl or platform to place them on.  I finally got fed up with my fate and took matters into my own hands.  Enter the DIY vintage Easter Cloche.

I know it's a bit funky in that I didn't place it on a traditional looking stand.  But the day I found the actual top of the cloche at Club G.W. I was DETERMINED to find other elements that would work to create my final vision.  So the darling glass parfait cup came home with me, too!  Add one robin's egg blue plate special into the mix and voila, I had my cloche display piece.

I love how I can create two different vignettes, one on the top and one on the bottom, depending on my mood.  The vintage blue wooden eggs were a church thrift store find from a few years ago.

The vintage crocheted doily underneath sits on an old, tarnished silver platter.

I really do love it.  It makes me happy every time I look at it.

Here's to a happy and blessed Easter to you and yours!
