DIY Boho Flowered Fancy Antlers

April 10, 2017

 DIY boho flower antler decor

I'm very excited to share with you my DIY Boho Flowered Fancy Antlers! I've been a fan of antler decor for some years now and I've displayed a few of them in various places around my home. Some are store-bought versions of the real thing, but one set of antlers is actually a real set that I picked up at an antique mall in Michigan a few years ago. Back then I painted them white, and today I'm going to share how I managed to change them again, for the better!

How to Hang White Painted Antlers and Office Decor Reveal!

June 11, 2013

I promised a white antler reveal, and here they are, sprucing up our office!

I can't believe that I've never shown you the office before.  Oh wait, yes I can, since that big old space above the desk has been empty for 9 years!  Pitiful, I know.  But not anymore!  I'm ecstatic about the changes one small pair of deer antlers can spark in a room.  One day there's absolutely nothing on the wall, and the next there's a repurposed bulletin board, antlers and a whole host of other thrift store finds that helped turn the office into what feels like a whole new room.  Not bad for a small set of unmounted antlers.

I showed you the naked (a/k/a not painted) unmounted antlers in my last post, along with the white wooden plaque I scored at Michael's for a song.  I then used a can of Krylon's Indoor/Outdoor Satin White spray paint on the antlers, attached them to the plaque and voila.

I mentioned earlier how I tried to hot glue the antlers onto the plaque to no avail.  So Mr. CBD stepped in and nailed that sucker right onto it.  Luckily, there was already a nail hole from the prior owner, although I will say that it took a mighty long nail to get through both the antlers and the plaque.  I then screwed two picture hanging "eyes" into the back of the plaque and ran picture wire through and between them, so I could hang the whole thing from the wire.  It was really easy to hang since I just had to place a conventional picture hanger into the bulletin board with a small picture hanging nail, and then hang the wire onto that.  No hammers required.

I'm tickled pink with their spot for now.

Let me show you some more shots of the newly decorated office.

Well, that about does it for now.  I'll have a separate post coming up soon that shares with you all the great thrift store ideas I used to transform the room!

Until then, have a great week!

Antler Decor

June 5, 2013

I know I've expressed my love of antler decor more than a few times here on Charm Bracelet Diva {at Home}, and I even have a Pinterest board dedicated to the stuff.  Months ago, and I mean MONTHS ago, I purchased a small, unadorned rack of antlers at an antique mall in Michigan. I chose them specifically because they weren't mounted on anything.  Many of the antlers there that day were mounted on plaques covered in dirty old red velvet.  Hhhhmm.  No thanks.  I went with the naked model, of sorts.

Knowing full well that I'd have to DO something with them myself.

Not a surprise, if you know me.  Turning something into a project is as natural as breathing for me.  I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them, and luckily I found just the right plaque already painted white at Michael's.  What are the odds?  I think it was like $1.99 or something crazy cheap like that.

My only problem was how to attach them to the plaque.  I don't want to spoil it for you now, but I will say that there were a number of glue gun failures before I finally reached a positive end result.

No, these are not yet attached.  I was just holding them for the picture.  I'd say the project is about 90% done at this point.  Problem is, the other 10% is a real bear.  You see, once I painted it and attached it to the plaque I had to find just the right place to hang it, right?

So, I'm working on the final tweaks to make it all right and pretty for you, and I'll be sharing that final product with you soon.

In the meantime, why not check out my antler decor Pinterest Board? Hope to see you there!

The Antler Project

January 14, 2013

You know I'm on an antler mission.  I told you about my Anthropologie Surroyal antler-y pitcher HERE.  And I even have an "Antler Decor" Pinterest board {HERE}.  And I guess it's time to take it up a notch because I actually bought the real thing at an antique mall recently. I wasn't totally thrilled with it since it wasn't really mounted on anything.  So of course you know I'll have to do that myself!  I'm actually looking forward to that project. Until then, I thought I'd share a recent purchase that couldn't have been more timely, seeing that I'm head. over. heels. in. love. with these things.

Chickadee number three and I were walking through Target recently when I was stopped in my tracks by a "90% Off" all Christmas items clearance sale. I really wasn't looking for any Christmas decor. If anything I should be paring down what I have. But I just couldn't help myself from at least taking a look. The antler fairy must have been watching over me because here's what I found.
Deer Antler Holder Mercury Glass Bowl

I never would have bought this at its original price of $29.99. But at 90% off, well, I kind of had to buy it. I mean, it was $2.99. That's for both the awesome mercury glass bowl AND the antler base.  Woot woot!

How cool is this?

So, yeah, it was a bit of a late purchase for Christmas decor.  But I think I can leave this one out all year.  What do you think?
